Aadukalam is a 2011 Indian Tamil costume drama, drama film released on Jan 14, 2011. The film is directed by Vetrimaran, produced by Kathiresan under banner named Sun Pictures, music composed by G. V. Prakash.

The ancient tradition of cock fight as practiced in Madurai district is the centre of the film. Two warring family heads Rathnasamy (Naren) and Pettaikaran (Jayabalan) who owns the best fighter cocks are pitted against each other, raring for a tournament with their cocks. Karuppu (Dhanush) who works as the main caretaker of the Pettaikaran's cocks, falls in love with an Anglo Indian girl Irene (Taapsee). Pettaikaran, while choosing the best qualities of the cock for the fight, orders a cock to be killed as it is not good enough for a fight. But Karuppu, against his master's wishes, takes the cock and grooms it in his own house as a fighter cock. The cock fight tournament is generally banned, but nothing can stop the rivalry and ego clash between Rathnasamy and Pettaikaran. Rathnasamy, who also is a serving Police sub inspector, amends rules for organizing a tournament. Pettaikaran agrees to shave off his hair from the head if even one of his cocks lost the tournament, as an acceptance of defeat. Each party puts up many cocks for the fight. Rathnasamy's cocks loses most of the fights. Rathnasamy 'imports' new cocks from Bangalore, as the last leg of the tournament. Pettaikaran realizes his cocks do not have a chance to win now. But he cannot back out. Karuppu offers his cock for the fight which he has secretly groomed. But Pettaikaran becomes furious. Against his wishes, Karuppu puts his cock for the fight on behalf of Pettaikaran and wins the tournament. He becomes the new hero, with money flowing in as prize money. But Pettaikaran is deeply hurt and plans for the destruction of Karuppu by any means including using his other main man, Durai (Kishore), against him...
