Ok Jaanu is  far superior to the original Mani Ratnam film . Visually rich and textured to accommodate words and emotions in beautiful places in the heart, this is a tender and seductive return to form for a director who had lost his way, like Charutala in  Ok Jaanu.

If you haven’t seen the original though, you’re sure to walk out of the theatre with a warm-fuzzy feeling.

Well, OK Jaanu will be a treat to Shraddha and Aditya fans. If you are a sucker for romantic films or then easy movies then you wouldn’t mind spending your two hours and fifteen minutes in the theatre for this one.

OK Jaanu has its share of flaws but despite its weaknesses it not only entertains but also makes us think. The film is strictly meant for youngsters, for the older viewers may not be able to connect with it in the same way as younger audiences would.

Watch it if you believe in love, and watch it if you don’t. Fact is, Ok Jaanu is probably one of the most heart-warming romances you will ever see in Bollywood. And as for being a love story that portrays the meaning of true life partners, the last good one we saw was over a decade ago – Baaghban (2003), starring Amitabh Bachchan and Hema Malini.Grab your tickets NOW!

Ok Jaanu raises but doesn’t resolve questions about juggling professional and personal life, the dilemmas it poses for a woman. But it does address the changing face of modern-day relationships and the alternate arrangements it’s looking at in a wishful way.  In Ok Jaanu, characters live in a bubble that doesn’t burst till the end. Who wouldn’t be OK with that? 

OK Jaanu is an extremely entertaining film. Adi and Tara’s chemistry will make you feel young and want to fall in love once again! This film is a must watch for all romantic souls!

OK JAANU is breezy, harmless love story that repeats Aditya Roy Kapur and Shraddha Kapoor’s charming and adorable on screen glory (read chemistry).

The last fifteen minutes of the film are pacy and just about crackling. But it takes too long to get to the point. Obviously, novelty in rom-coms is a wrong expectation but this one seems sincere. What doesn’t convince me, however, is the reason for their commitment phobia. Shraddha’s character has some context, Adi, however, settles for being a regular boy with no backstory. There is a lot of heart, enough mush but not much to remember. We hear; OK Kanmani was better. Take your pick for this one – Remake or Original?

‘OK Jaanu’ is a light-hearted film but there is nothing extraordinary about it.

OK Jaanu is watchable because it does occasionally touch both the heart and the ear. But it is never able to shrug off the fluff that clings to its body.

Ok Jaanu is strictly OK. Watch it if you waited this long to watch Aditya and Shraddha reignite their chemistry on the big screen. Fans of the original however, might have a different point of view.

When young Aadi (who is a video game maker) and Tara (who is an architect) fall in love, they say they care only for their careers to be tied down to marriage. For serious career-oriented couple, all they seem to do is escape work to ride in buses and trains, call each other ‘Jaanu’ and smile coyly at each other. All is ‘Okay’ until the time comes to go their separate ways. Then all becomes a drag. Not ‘Okay’ at all.

Those who have watched the original film will find Shaad Ali’s latest offering ‘Strickly OK’. For the others, we leave it to you for some ‘figure out kar lenge’.

Ok Jaanu doesn’t convince you with the couple’s fear against marriage. Neither does it showcase real career problems. The parents and family are also such boring cardboard characters. You can see the climax well in advance but can hardly see any logic or reasoning in their change of hearts. 

This film is breezy with light romance, and slight humour for the most part, and the lead actors, perfectly paired, add a touch of both. This is what teenagers packing into the theatres seem to have been drawn to. Beyond this, the film seems strictly okay

‘OK Jaanu’ is a half-hearted love story just like its confused young couples and would instead recommend the original Tamil film.

Technically speaking there are not many faults in the film. But it’s nothing that we haven’t seen before. It’s the same old wine served the same old way in the same old bottle. It’s predictable and once again the climax doesn’t make much sense. It looks more of a made up drama that a real sweet coming of age romance story of a young couple.You can watch this one on TV.

Simply put, ‘Ok Jaanu’ tries hard to match Ratnam’s original ‘O Kandhal Kanmani’ but fails miserably.

…It’s a bit like flat soda. Palatable, but lacking any fizz.

Overall, OK Jaanu is a strictly ok film, devoid of anything new or interesting.

This Aditya Roy Kapur, Shraddha Kapoor film proves Bollywood needs to get more adept at depicting young love. Why do our lovers, so much quicker off the mark when it comes to locking lips, sound so juvenile?

Ali brings little other than a few visual flourishes to the original. OK Jaanu is a carbon copy which lacks the emotional cadence and vigour of the original.

To begin with OK Jaanu has very little to hold your interest. What with a name that seems to be an excuse for the couple to call each other by the purportedly cute nickname, “Jaanu”? As the movie moves along, you realise the filmmakers aren’t really interested in getting you interested. They are just smitten by their own coolness of having brought up “live-in” relationships to Indian cinema. eyerollSo, if you get peeved off by that kind of love-doveyness, this one isn’t for you. If you find it cute…naah, even then it’s not for you.

Despite good performances, Shaad Ali’s directorial and Mani Ratnam’s love story fail to keep the viewer spellbound

Just as you need to acquaint yourself better with young people, enter their minds and understand their way of thinking, to portray them on screen with any degree of depth. Ok Jaanu is a surface skimmer.

The film starts on a slow note and might not pique much interest but soon picks up the pace. For people who’ve watched the original, they might find the film be a good attempt to remake the original. For people who’ve not seen the original, the film is not the best of love stories out there but the leads make it worth the watch.

…there is something to be said for a film that takes a tired romantic trope and turns it into a tale that will bring a smile to your face. But any credit must go to Mani Ratnam. Ali and his cast are merely transcribers here.

Ali has all the elements in place for a breezy ode to young love, but his mechanical approach and miscasting ensure that OK Jaanu is not exactly an okay remake.
