Shubh Mangal Saavdhan isn’t a sex comedy but a complete family entertainer. The film not only has a beautiful message but also an ability to tickle one’s funny bone for a good 105 minutes.

With its fine zingers and feisty acknowledgement, Shubh Mangal Saavdhan does more for sex, both noun and verb, than any Hindi film can claim to in a long, long time.

Shubh Mangal Saavdhan rises above its minor problems to deliver plenty laughs. It’s one of the year’s most enjoyable films. I recommend that you make the time for it.

Do not at all confuse this film as a sex comedy, IT IS NOT! This film is binded along with making you LOL, will make you think. It tackles a subject which everyone has heard of but very few talk about. Go and see how Bollywood is progressing, go and watch how this is 2017 and we’re ready to watch anything we want.

What’s the filmmakers’ single biggest achievement then? That they get away with a film full of double meanings, without ever seeming crass or cheap at any point. This is a miracle, only undone by quite a few moments where they stretch the limits of imagination a bit too far for comfort. Does the movie find solutions, or urge you to dig deeper on the issue? Not really, only great movies tend to do that—this one comes quite close to being that by the way.

This is an brave and  bright film with its heart in the right place and its gaze refreshingly free of a gender bias fixed firmly at  the crotch level.

A little close to two hours, barely any moments wasted on superfluous aspects, and an absolute dearth of pointless songs – there’s a lot that you’d appreciate in Shubh Mangal Saavdhan.

It’s an entertaining movie with some cheeky humour and great performances. Do watch it.

The manufactured climax aims for a brisk resolution without much explanation. The cameo preceding it makes even lesser sense. Nonetheless Shubh Mangal Saavdhan is yet another feel-good romance which, much like Bareilly Ki Barfi, works because of credible performances.

…in spite of its flaws manages its promise date of a rom com that offers something different, thanks to its quirky, bold, snappy and saucy fun powered by an all the way endearing Ayushmann & Bhumi.

Shubh Mangal Saavdhan could have been the best romantic comedy Bollywood has seen in years. It tackles a risky premise, the humour was brilliant and the performances were first-rate. Unfortunately, the writing suffers a ‘gent’s problem’ towards the end, leaving us high and dry. Still, I would recommend you to watch SMS purely for the humour and Ayushmann-Bhumi’s amazing chemistry.

It is disheartening that these moments aren’t spread through the film’s writing. It is disheartening that the writing feels disjointed as if it was written over years and the writers lost objectivity. It is disheartening that the next time the topic and these behavioral observations are taken up in a film, they will seem like a repeat. In some sense, we have lost the “freshness” of this topic within a romantic relationship to “done before” in a sub-optimal way.

The worst thing about this film is that you cannot call it a bad or below-par film. But in terms of expectations from the vibe and promo, we are not fully gratified.

This comedy of middle-class-Dilli-manners-and-mores suffers from a sit-com flatness. And when everything is meant to make us laugh, you can quite easily deflect attention from the main premise. The Ayushmann Khurrana and Bhumi Pednekar film resists the temptation to tart up the ordinary, which is the best part: no one’s calling attention quirky, everyone is real.

It is an arousing foreplay that doesn’t give you the climax you hoped for but leaves you with a happy ending.

With an interesting and bold subject, the fun-filled milieu of a north Indian wedding and an ensemble of good supporting actors, Shubh Mangal Saavdhan could have been a gem of a film. Except, it isn’t.

Shubh Mangal Saavdhan then is a super-fun till it gets superficial. It is, to borrow the tagline of another film now in theatres, sundar, susheel and risky in its first half, flails about in the second, but remains entertaining overall. Handle it with care and alertness.

A remake of the very successful Tamil film Kalyana Samayal Saadham, this Bollywood film is a one trick pony that is carried for two hours by a fine ensemble of supporting cast and some funny writing.

With so much going for it, it’s disappointing when Shubh Mangal Saavdhan doesn’t come close to sticking the landing. The film’s final 20 minutes includes an elaborate, less-than-sensible gag, a spot of screenwriting panic, an on-the-nose sermon, and a deus ex machina when none was required. But this doesn’t erase what’s come before: a funny, hopeful film, with enough dry wit and generosity of spirit to allow it to circumvent the farcical pitfalls of its subject matter.
