She was a political activist. She is also the daughter of Shavinder Singh who was an army officer. She did her schooling from Modern School in New Delhi and is fluent in the English, Punjabi and Hindi languages. She did many films like: Betaab, Mard, Saaheb in 1985, Chameli Ki Shaadi and Naam in 1986, Khudgarz,Raju Ban Gaya Gentleman (1992) and Aaina (1993). She then did 23rd March 1931: Shaheed, Star Plus television serial, Kkavyanjali in 2005, film Kalyug, Shootout at Lokhandwala, Dus Kahaniyaan, Karate in 2010 and recently appeared in Aurangzeb. She was married to Saif Ali khan. She has a son and a daughter from her wedding, but these two got separated after thirteen years of their wedding.
