He is known to direct movies like: Lagaan (2001), Swades (2004), Jodhaa Akbar (2008), What’s Your Raashee (2009) and Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey (2010). He was born in Kshatriya Maratha family to Ashok and Kishori Gowariker. He is originally from Kolhapur. He is married to Sunita. He has two sons Konark & Vishwang. His uncle is a scientist, Dr. Vasantrao Gowariker. He made his bollywood debut with the movie, Holi. He then met Aamir Khan. He then acted in many television serials like: Circus (1989), C.I.D.
