She was born in Calcutta to the famous actress Suchitra Sen and Dibannath Sen. She completed her schooling from Loreto Convent, Shillong and at Loreto House, Calcutta. She also did graduation from Somerville College, Oxford and has got her Master's degree from Comparative Literature from Jadavpur University, Kolkata. Before acting, she did modeling. She is also a political leader who joined the Trinamool Congress. She got married to a descendant of the royal family of Tripura state and has two daughters: Riya and Raima Sen.
