Salim Merchant
(Singer)Biography
Salim Merchant was born in Kutch, Gujarat. Salim has a brother Sulaiman Merchant. These two are known as the India’s topic music composers. They were raised in Muslim family. Their father Sadruddin Merchant used to lead Ismaili Scouts Orchestra in India. Salim was trained piano on at the Trinity College of Music in London while Sulaiman was trained in tabla under the legends like: Taufiq Qureshi and Ustad Zakir Hussain. After six years of devotion and dedication in the music industry, these two got recognized with the work in the film ‘Bhoot’. Their music in the film ‘Iqbal’ stole hearts of many fans. Then, they started composing songs for the movies like: Neal 'n' Nikki, Chak De! India, Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi and Fashion. They also composed songs for Indi-pop performers including Viva, Aasmaan, Shweta Shetty, Jasmine and Style Bhai. They also collaborated with artists like: Ustad Zakir Hussain and Ustad Sultan Khan.
