She was a famous actress who was titled as Malika-e-Tarannum. She was born to the owner of a small furniture shop in Gujranwala, Punjab. She couldn't receive any training in singing yet she was a famous actress. She completed her schooling from J.B. Petit High School for Girls, Mumbai. She made her debut as a child artist Usne Kya Socha (1937).She was selected to play the role of Mumtaz Mahal in Taj Mahal movie. She had worked in the movies such as Dard (1947), Dillagi (1949), Anmol Ghadi (1946), and Dastaan (1950). She sang for the films such as Mr. Lambu (1956), Inam (1955), Miss 1958 (1958), Shama (1961), Trolly Driver (1958), Malik (1958), and Rustom Sohrab (1963).
