The new version of the classic horror film may not be a revisionist tale and have anything new to offer. Nevertheless, it does have some old fashioned scares that still work and a vintage villain (Jackie Earle Haley) whose sword-scissor hands and snarling visage is both fun and fearful. Beat the blazing summer heat with some creepy chills. Bring on the Nightmare.

A remake of the old horror film by the same name, Nightmare on Elm Street (2010) pretty much has all the ingredients intact, needed in the making of a decent horror film. Samuel Bayer manages to grip you with fear every time Freddy appears on screen as he speaks in a frightening voice and then scratches his metallic knife-fingers into walls and then his human victims. The sound effects, dark picturisation and mystery involved too keep you on the edge of your seat.

The film's not entirely a waste of time if all you're seeking are a few good scares. But don't go in expecting anything more. I'm going with two out of five for "A Nightmare on Elm Street". Like the characters in the film, chances are you'll be struggling to keep your eyes open.

Disappointingly, there aren't enough or in fact there isn't any scene in this remake of A Nightmare On Elm Street to keep you on the edge of your seat. Fans of horror movies can give this a try.

Sleep brings with it nightmares which turn out to be horrifyingly real. A solid enough idea which was done to death with the six editions that formed the previous franchise. With this version we are in for a new series, god forbid. And certainly not one with any distinction worth mentioning. The music is genric, the plot is predictable, the background score is also predictably ingratiating, the effects are routine and the performances pretty much run of themill. In no manner does this film stand out from the crowd it hopes toinhabit. It is also not coherent. There are no surprises here. Beats me why Samuel Bayer wanted to trifle with Craven’s original!

Those who have watched the original, will cringe at the way the dream sequences have been tampered with. New viewers have nothing to take home except a few scenes where loud jarring music is meant to raise scares. The girls seem like contestants from America's Next Top Model while casting Kellan Lutz (Twilight series) is just plain gimmicky. Even when Freddy is doing what he does best -- killing his victims -- he doesn't seem to be having any fun. Just when you think the story is reaching its logical conclusion there is a distraction that's used to stretch the plot further.
