Aaji aani Naat is a 2010 Indian Marathi drama film released on Dec 24, 2010. The film is directed by Subhash Phadke, produced by Ankush More.
This movie starts with a 7 year old girl who is told to write an essay on her grandparents. She is worried as she doesn’t have a grandmother from both either her mother’s side or her father’s side. Both her parents are doctors and they are orphaned at very tender age. Then one day, she is connected to Sumitrabai Purandhare. She is an elderly woman who is battling for her life due to illness. The conversation between her and the 7 years old girl leads to a very beautiful story.

7 year old Akshata is asked to write a short essay on the importance of grandparents. She is worried as she does not have a grandparent neither from her father nor mother’s side. Both her parents, Ameya and Kshama, doctors, were orphaned very early. A chance call connects her to Sumitrabai Purandhare, an elderly lady battling old age and loneliness in Neral. Their frequent conversations leads to the start of a beautiful, sweet relationship between the “Aaji” (Grandmother, in Marathi) and her “Naat”, (Grand daughter, in Marathi). Sumitrabai welcomes the new change Akshata has brought in her life but it also brings back some painful memories that she had long since buried deep inside her heart.
