Story

Abatar is a 1941 Indian Bengali devotional, drama, mythology film released on 1941. The film is directed by Premankur Atarthi.

Following the advice of Guru Omkarananda, Indranath prayed to the goddess Kamala. Goddess Kamala appeared on earth in the guise of Rupasi, the forest daughter of Omkarananda. The god Narayan also appeared on the earth to teach Kamala a few lessons. Indranath's son was cured of a grave disease by the goddess' blessings but the moment he was about to sit on the throne his son died. Very soon his daughter also died and the queen turned insane. The lord Vishwakarma came to the empire and helped to modernise the empire. Kalpanagar became the principle centre of modern education and industrialisation. Narad and Narayan appeared on earth as Virodhananda and Tribhanga, his son respectively. The people were tortured and a fire of discontent spread against Jantraraj. Omkarananda was sentenced to jail on the charge of instigating the people to stand against Jantraraj. Hearing that Rupasi, came to the king's court. On seeing Rupasi, Bastabesh was so impressed that he wished to get her. In order to save Rupasi from Bastabesh's lust Omkarananda approached Birodhananda. Birodhananda gave shelter to Rupasi in his house with the interest of marrying her to his son Tribhanga. One day a blind begger Niranjan and his daughter Santi came to their doorsteps begging for alms. Hearing their songs Kalyani thought Santi was her lost daughter Karuna. She called Santi inside and gave her shelter. But the people thought Karuna was trapped in order to be sacrificed to save the river from floods. The agitated people came to the palace in search of Santi. Bastabesh wanted to express his love to Kamala thinking her to be Rupasi .But the moment Bastabesh touched her a glow from goddess Kamala blinded Bastabesh. At last Omkarananda and queen Kalyani saved Bastabesh and he got back not only his sight but his lost fortune too.
