The film is based on a real-life incident and features Abhimanyu Singh. Remember the actor who walked away with your applause as the student leader in Anurag Kashyap's maverick movie Gulal? More importantly, the film provides a role of a lifetime to Celina Jaitley as the nurse who seems to lose all her humaneness in a freak situation. And if that's not enough, it marks another return of the talented Farooque Shaikh to mainstream cinema after

Attempting a remake makes a director's job much easier. You know you have a tried and tested script to follow; you know the patterns of the screenplay so it's basically all about your treatment. The problem happens when you try to 'enhance' it with your own inputs. First-time director makes the same mistake with Accident On Hill Road and what could've otherwise been a one-of-a-kind thriller loses momentum minutes after the show begins.

What do you do when you, accidentally, bang into someone on the road? Flee from the spot? Call for help? Dial the cops? Rush the victim to the hospital? Pick up a newspaper and chances are you might glance upon a hit-and-run case only too often. ACCIDENT ON HILL ROAD, a remake of STUCK [Mena Suvari, Stephen Rea], raises a few questions in its own way. Perhaps, the intentions were right, but what eventually unfolds on screen isn't.

Accident on Hill Road opens on a seedy note. At a day-care geriatric centre, aged men lust after a shapely nurse (Celina Jaitly) who is handing out 'pinkies'(her name for Ecstasy pills), shots of rum and even displaying enough cleavage to bring light into their humdrum lives. Somehow her sweet demeanour doesn't match her heavily pancaked face and within minutes, you are enveloped by a 'this will turn out to be C-grade thriller' feeling.

It's not easy making films. Telling a story convincingly and interestingly is a job that some directors manage with ease, and others don't. First-time director Mahesh Nair falls into the latter category. His film Accident On Hill Road is a terrible excuse for a film. It makes you wonder what he was thinking while making it. He calls the film a thriller but really, there are no thrills in this Celina Jaitley-starrer. As the title suggests, the film is about an accident
