It's a first in Bollywood, Jhakaas action with kick-ass editing. It's so sharp that the cuts back and forth leave you breathless even as the action unfolds with typical Hollywood finesse. The screenplay blends seamlessly into every scene, past or present and the sound will truly get you. This is Bollywood at its best when it comes to action, direction, screenplay, editing, sound and cinematography. In short, this is Tashan - The Ishtyle, The good luck, The pharmoola!

Besides Abbas-Mustan, Sanjay Gupta has attempted interesting thrillers in the past. His new outing, ACID FACTORY, directed by Suparn Verma, is a cat-n-mouse chase that will have you on edge of the seat as it unfolds. Inspired by Hollywood film UNKNOWN, ACID FACTORY is engaging in most parts. Also, it's well adapted to suit Indian sensibilities. It starts off strong enough and keeps the momentum going till the end

Long before Vishal Bhardwaj paid his tribute to Quentin Tarantino with Kaminey, Sanjay Gupta had displayed his fascination for the action autuer with his brand of stark, hard-hitting cinema. nfact Kaante was a tryst with Reservoir Dogs for the desi film buff. Acid Factory, his latest production, may be inspired by the lesser known Unknown, but in terms of style, characterisation and presentation, there is lots that can be traced back to the hep & happening

Acid Factory, directed by Suparn Verma, looks like it's been assembled from the footage that was edited out of Sanjay Gupta's Kaante. Shot in the same grainy moss-green colour tone; its characters speak in a similar hyper-active overlapping style; and two big action set-pieces notwithstanding, it's a suffocating psychological thriller at its core.Of course, there's also that trademark sequence of all characters walking towards camera in slo-mo

Six characters suffering temporary memory loss due to a gas leak in the acid factory they are captive within is an interesting premise. It was previously seen in Unknown, a 2006 Hollywood film which has 'inspired' Acid Factory. The theme, nonetheless, remains underutilised -- the amnesia does not seem to bother the characters too much. Before we get to why they are imprisoned in this factory, we journey back and forth in time, which is a little distracting

The secret to this action thriller is a whole lot of gas. No offence, but gas, and a deadly one at that, does play a significant part in this film. It temporarily wipes out the memories of the people exposed to it. At the end of the agonising experience called Acid Factory, you wish you inhaled some of it too. Six people trapped inside an acid factory have lost their memory ? and the next 90 minutes tell you how they walk around the place in painfully slow strides, jump on each other

While it is not a film about the Bhopal gas tragedy, Acid Factory is a typical Sanjay Gupta ‘for men only’ production with a bunch of cool criminals dressed in black, a dark industrial setting and lots of motorcycle and car stunts thrown in. Think Kaante, but minus the great music or the twin magic of Big B and the deadly Dutt. Set entirely in South Africa, the film starts with cop Fardeen Khan being sent on a dangerous undercover assignment

Inspired or not, Acid Factor opens with an engaging premise. Set against the backdrop of an acid factory, we are introduced to Fardeen Khan who wakes up not knowing where and who he is. Suffering from amnesia, he soon stumbles upon four other people (Aftab Shivdasani, Dino Morea, Manoj Bajpayee and Danny Denzongpa) waking up in a state of haze and nausea. It doesn't take long for the guys to realise they are in a mousetrap and the cheese is far from their reach!

Sanjay Gupta enters familiar territory with remaking Unknown (another Hollywood action-thriller) and caustically credits half a dozen writers for assembling this Acid Factory. Five men (Fardeen, Manoj Bajpai, Aftab, Dino, Danny) wake up in a warehouse to realize they have momentarily lost their memory due to a gas leak. The exit doors are locked and there’s no way out. A phone call from a mafia kingpin (Irrfan Khan) unveils that four of them are kidnappers

A group of men regain consciousness in a vast shed with no memory of how they got there. They don’t remember a thing, in fact: there they are, hurt and bleeding, in a place that’s sealed tight, miles away from anywhere. Who are they, and what’s going on? Sanjay Gupta’s productions usually involve beefy men playing with guns in settings—in this one, it’s Durban-- bleached of all colour. And that’s mainly what happens in ‘Acid Factory’, so named because the place

In an interview, director Suparn Verma said that it took him over a year and 55 drafts to come up with the final script for Acid Factory. Which is pretty surprising considering that Acid Factory is a faithful remake of a B-grade 2006 film called Unknown. Like in Unknown, here too, a motley group of people wake up in a factory. Each one is suffering from temporary amnesia and cannot remember why they are in this decrepit, totally sealed space.

I didn’t even know there was a film called Unknown, from which the premise and pretty much this entire picture is lifted. That flick, I am told, part Usual Suspects (copied as Chocolate in Hindi), part Reservoir Dogs (made once as Kaante) was so unknown, it barely made it to DVDs in America. If anything, this film says a lot about the advances made in the motion-picture plagiarism industry of Mumbai in the past few years. It’s no longer a case of innocent artistes

“A man can convince anyone he’s somebody else, but never himself” — Verbal Kint in The Usual Suspects. But if a man himself doesn’t know who he is, how can he convince others? The gas leak which causes “temporary amnesia” in the characters of Acid Factory had surely sneaked in behind the camera as well. They really must have forgotten what they were making. The reason why somebody would put in Rs 25 crore to make a film like this is Unknown.
