Agni Pareeksha is a 1981 Indian Bollywood film released on 1981. Although Karuna Devi had everything in the world she was not a happy person. She owned a huge industrial complex and she enjoyed the goodwill of her people yet she was inside a very tormented woman. . Her husband committed suicide in a fit of jealousy when he learnt that his wife had a love affair before marriage a person who was a great firend of his. . This incident had such a shttering effect on the mind of young Aloke, their son, that he had to be sent to Lunatic Asylum for treatment. . Even when Aloke was discharged from the Asylum he refused to go to his mother. He dreaded the place where his father had committed suicide. . But when Karuna Devi sent the manager of her factory Siddhartha, a trusted man, to somehow birng Aloke to the estate, Aloke came only on one condition that he would meet his mother and return immediaterly thereafter. . At the estate howerver he met the beautiful Meeta and decided to stay. . Siddhartha already had become a close friend and now the attraction of Meeta was sufficient to keep him tied down to this place. This made Karuna Devi very happy. Infact she had brought Meeta to be her daughte r-in-law and gave her education and business training so that she sould take charge of her house hold and her son. . But neither the mother nor the son knew that Meeta had already given her heart to Siddhartha who also loved her. Obligated Meeta had a problem. How to say no to Karuna Devi to whom she owed her very exist- ance. . Siddhartha also had a problem. He knew that anything which caused mental shock to Aloke could once again damage his health. As a friend therefor ehe decided to sacrifice. . he privailed upon Meeta to marry Aloke as this was the only way to pay back her debut of gratitude to Karupa Devi. . Consequently Siddhartha decide to leave the factory so that the specto of his love did not fall on the marriage of Aloke, However, when Aloke came to know that Siddhartha and Meeta were in love and that Siddhar- tha had decided to quit in his favour he refused to take a wife in charity. A situation, similar to the one which confronted his father, became a disturbning reality which resulted in sending him back in to a fit of lunacy. .
