Agni Rekha is a 1973 Indian Bollywood social film released on 1973. The film is directed by Mahesh Kaul, produced by M. S. Melwani.
The main theme of Agni Rekha is that man has little control over the realities of life and if the Fates so ordain the path of life can readily be transformed into a forest of fire. The paths of Sanjay-father of two orphaned children and Nirmala a women damned as a sinner, cross. A light flicker develops into an inferno. But before it could destory them, he accepts her to erase the scars left on her character by an oppurtunist. - Man has little control over the realities of life and if the fates so ordian, the path of life can readily be transformed into a forest fire So it was with Suresh. His wifes untimely death left him a lonely widower with the two little innocent children to be brought up. It was equally so with Nirmala, who found herself danned as a sinner through she had not committed any sin. When their paths crossed, a light gleamed in the darkness. Suresh desired to offer Nirmala his hand, and an oasis appeared in the wilderness of their hearts. Suresh was not unaware of Nirmalas past. He shunned the people who labelled as a sinner. He believed that his arm was strong enough to ward off all ugly insinuations that painted Nirmala as a wanton woman. If a line of fire was to be lit from a barrier between them and their desires, Suresh possessed the power to extinguish such a fire before it harmed either of them. . But the strength that Suresh possessed could easily have fallen before the mob. And then came a voice. The voice of sanity. The voice of Truth. The voice that took the form of the Baba from the temple. He chided those who dared fling stones at Nirmala, who abused her, debased her. She is no sinner, she is a pure as morning breeze. The child she bears has neither been conceived in love nor in passion. She is guilty of even a momentary lapse. If there be virginity upon this earth, she is the finest example. The mob refused to be pacified and the Baba looked towards God for an answer to Nirmalas condtion. When a child is conceived within the womb shall bear responsibility for such birth? he asked.
