PRABHAT (MITHUN CHAKRABORTY) LOSES HIS VOICE IN TO AN ACCIDENT DURING HIS CHILDHOOD. AFTER HIS FATHER IS ARRESTED BY THE POLICE, THE WHOLE FAMILY'S RESPONSIBILITY FALLS ON PRABHATS SHOULDERS. HE GETS A JOB IN A CHEMICAL FACTORY. HE WORKS THERE HONESTLY AND FAITHFULLY. ONE DAY HE CATCHES THE MANAGER, PREM CHORA SMUGGLING CHEMICALS TO A DEALER AND CALLS THE POLICE DUE TO WHICH THE MANAGER IS ARRESTED. TO TAKE REVENGE FOR HER FATHERS ARREST ANU (PREM CHOPRA'S DUAGHTER) MARRIES PRABHAT'S BROTHER SURYA (MOHNISH BEHL) AND HE IS OFFERED THE MANAGERS POST BY PRABHATS BOSS. SLOWLY ANU CREATES A RIFT BETWEEN PRABHATS FAMILY MEMBERS WHICH RESULTS IN PRABHAT AND HIS MOTHER (ARUNA IRANI) STAYING BACK AND THE REST MOVING INTO ANUS HOME. MEANWHILE PRABHAT MARRIES NAYANA (MAMTA KULKARNI), HIS CHILDHOOD LOVE. THEY LIVE HAPPILY TOGETHER BUT AFTER SOME DAYS PRABHAT COMES TO KNOW THAT SURYA ALONGWITH HIS UNCLE, JWALA (GULSHAN GROVER) AND PREM HAVE TRANSFERRED THE COMPANY TO THEIR NAME. HE REACHES SURYA'S HOUSE WHERE A FIGHT TAKES PLACE BETWEEN HIM AND SURYA. TAKING ADVANTAGE OF THE SITUATION, ANU TEARS HER CLOTHES AND BLAMES PRABHAT OF A RAPE ATTEMPT AND GETS HIM ARRESTED. AFTER HIS MOTHER COMES TO KNOW OF THIS SHE ASKS SURYA TO BAIL PRABHAT OUT BUT SHE IS THROWN OUT OF THE HOUSE DUE TO WHICH SHE SUFFERS A HEART ATTACK. SHE IS HOPITALIZED AND DIES. THE SHOCK OF HER DEATH RETURNS PRABHAT'S VOICE AND HE PLANS TO TAKE REVENGE FROM THE CULPRITS. HE PLANS A PLOT AGAINST THEM AND TAKES REVENGE FROM THEM. MEANWHILE ANU AND SURYA REALISE THEIR MISTAKE AND APOLOGISE TO PRABHAT. PRABHAT FORGIVES THEM AND THE WHOLE FAMILY REUNITES AND LILVE HAPPILY EVER AFTER.
AHANKAAR is the story of human relationship. Prabhats father Dwarkanath hates his son because his wife died while giving birth to Prabhat. But Dwarkas second wife Ganga loves Prabhat more than her own children Surya and Chandra. Prabhat also loves his mother very much and one day while saving her from a truck accident, he loses his voice. One day Darkanath is arrested for bribe and sent to jail. The responsibility of running the family falls on Prabhat. He laboured day and night and finally got a job in a chemical factory. Prabhats girl friend Naina becomes very happy. . Prabhat catches the manager of the factory Prem who steals lots of chemicals from the factory. Prem is arrested and sent to jail. The owner of the factory is so pleased that he wants to make Prabhat the manager of the factory, but Prabhat requests him to make his brother Surya the manager and the owner agrees. . After Prem is released from the jail he plans to take revenge on Prabhat and gets his daughter married to Surya. She takes revenge in such a way that the whole family is shattered. The proprietor of the factory has go out of India and with the help of some of his associate Prem gets the factory transferred in their name.
