Anpadh 1962

Anpadh is a 1962 Indian Bollywood social, musical, family drama film released on Jan 01, 1962. The film is directed by Mohan Kumar, produced by Rajendra Bhatia under banner named Kiron Productions.

Chaudhary Shambhunath (Balraj Sahni) considers the accumulation of wealth to be more important than education. He condones his sister's inattention at school and consequently she grows up "anpadh" (illiterate). When she finds herself married to a bibliophile her problems really begin. Unable to read the poetry her husband loves and being a rotten cook too, she becomes despised by her husband and her in-laws. Circumstances conspire to leave her homeless, husbandless and pregnant. Narrowly escaping from the attentions of a panderer she falls amongst friends and, with the birth of her daughter, she starts on the long road to redemption. An entertaining plea for education in general and for the education of girls in particular.

The pace of TIME has ever been changing the human view point, beliefs and notions. Our country also has partly yielded to the needs of TIME and Indian minds are rapidly developing to understand the real values of life. But unfortunately there still exists section of people who are sticking to their wrong old belief unware of the dangerous consequences which their youngsters have to face. Our story depicts one one the such ignorant characters - Choudhary Shambhoo Nath - a fabulously rich zamindar. The Chowdhary with absolute intoxication of wealth and power believed that wealth was the only remedy for all purpose of life. With this dangerous belief and utterly wrong idealogy. He did not educate his only sister and kept her away from the household work also. He believed that with his enormous assets he could make the life of his sister happy and properous. As a result his only sister Lajo whom he loved very much grew into a very good looking girl but remained completely illiterate and enexperienced. . Basanti a daughter of a poor postaman was a childhood friend of Lajo. She had a natural defect in her leg which made her lame. Her father with full consciousness of the significance of education and knowledge sent his daughter regularly to school and Basanti inspite of the fact that she had to do the entire household being a motherless child took full interest in her eduction. . Lajos marriage was performed by her brother at a vary lavish scale and he sent his loving sister to her new home and gave her in dowry all that he had. But alas ! the riches of her brother could not give happiness and peace to his sister. The knowledge of her illiteracy shocked her husband and he had nothing but hatred for her. The entire family of her inlaws had only mockery for her. She how realised how she has been the victim of her brothers wrong conviction and how big injustice has ben done to her. She patiently witness the turn of events and on one fateful occasion her husband realised the helpssness of Lajo and offered attonement for all that had happened. Beofre she could taste the happiness of her husbands renrwed love and affection, destiny struck the cruelest blow on her and snatched away her husband she was now at the cross of her husband she was now carrying. From here follows the stirring climax bringing home a reality that it is not the wealth but the eduacation, experience and knowledge which is required to make our daughters and sisters happy and prosperous.
