Bakul Priya 1997

Bakul Priya is a 1997 Indian Bengali romance film released on 1997. The film is directed by Swapan Saha.

Bakul is a young village boy. His father is obsessed with money and saves every penny that he can. He frequently takes household necessities from Kamal, the local grocer, on credit. Kamal gives him credit as he wants his daughter to get married to Bakul when they grow up. Bakul is very good in studies and does very well in his examinations. His father asks him to go to the city to pursue his education. Bakul leaves for the city and promises to keep in regular touch with Priya, Kamal's daughter. Years go by and Priya eagarly waits for Bakul , but she never hears from him. She is totally unware that he sends a letter to her every week which reaches Bakul's father. One day Priya receives a letter along with Bakul's photograph. She decides to open it at the place where they used to meet. Just as she opens the letter there is a whiff of wind and the photo flies out of her hands onto a tree. She tries to climb the tree, slips and injures herself and becomes blind. Bakul arrives in the village and is shocked to see Priya blind. He decides to organizes funds for Priya's operation and his mother too gives him her jewellery to sell and get the money. Bakul goes to the city. Meanwhile one day, Gourab (Abhishekh) nearly runs dE11E7own Priya as he is driving his car. Gourab is the son of the zamindar and he instantly falls in love with Priya. He sends for her father and tells him that he would like to marry Priya and also pay for her operation. Kamal says he will think this over and tells Priya about this. Initially Priya refuses but later Bakuls father convinces her to marry Gourab. When Bakul returns he finds Priya married and goes back to the city. There he saves a girl, Megha, from some goons and gets injured. Megha takes him to the hospital and as it turns out, Megha's brother is Gourab who comes to meet Bakul at the hospital and then takes him home. Bakul meets Priya at Megha's birthday party. Though Priya has never seem him before, his voice seems familiar. After her succesful eye operation, Priya's father comes to visit her and she asks him if he can recognize the man staying at her house. Her father recognizes Bakul and asks him to stay away from Priya. In the meantime Megha falls in love with Bakul and asks Priya to tell Gourab so. ugh he tells his daughter he can't recognize the person staying in her house. Megha falls in love with Bakul and tells Priya to tell her brother about this. One day when Priya and Gourab come home, they find Bakul lying unconscious with a doll beside him. It is then that Priya realises that the boy is indeed her childhood sweetheart Bakul as she too has a similar doll. She decides to ask him to leave the house but mistakenly tells all this to Gourab thinking that he is Bakul. Gourab is shocked at all this and asks Priya to chose between him and Bakul. Priya cannot bear it and shoots herself, but survives. In the meantime some goons attack Gourab and Bakul comes to his rescue and nearly dies trying to save Gourab. Bakul then goes back to his village and asks Megha to marry somebody else.
