Baluchari 1968

Baluchari is a 1968 Indian Bengali drama film released on 1968. The film is directed by Ajit Gangopadhyay.

Baluchuri is one of the best examples of a Bengali teacher from the 60s. It is the classic example of the woman who sacrifices her love, happiness and comforts of the life in order to raise her siblings their parents having passed away earlier . The story begins with Manda returning home with medicine for his father and comes across Avi, the family physican as well as a family friend who tell her that should continue her M.A classes which she had qiut to make her father happy. She tells Avi that she would teach at a school that the Local Mahila Samiti President planning to start. So she sould teach in that school. Years go on and now her siblings are grown up and now in college. Her brother Nanda gets a 1st class and gets himself a job on one condition- that he would have to marry his boss's daughter. He informs his sister and asks to reconsider his decision. He goes away with the decision of marrying his boss's daughter, takes the job and leaves the house. His wife turns to be a westernised girl who calls her father "Daddy". There are a few conflicts between Nanda's wife and Nanda's sister on the night of their boubhat utsab. Slowly both the younger sisters of Manda got married on the same day. Manda is insulted on the couple of ocasions by Nanda's wife as she comes to borrow some money for the marriage of Nanda's sister though it is not so. In the moment Avi asks Manda if they can get together, but Manda says that it is too late. Hearing this, Avi goes away and to an unknown location without informing anyone. A few domestic problem and taken all and all that ends well with Avi returning to Nanda at the end. This is the role which stars Satabdi as she has played cellular roles in other movies too and she gives in a senestive perfmance as a woman who has to go through hardships of life and suffer in her love so that happiness came to her siblings. The other characters seemed to have fallen in place in their roles too. Just one question why was Sabitri in a black sari before her mother photo as if she was a genuine widow?
