Story

Banglar Meye is a 1941 Indian Bengali drama, family film released on 1941. The film is directed by Naresh Mitra.

Jitendra, elder son of Upendranath, went to England to study law and married Maya, a very modern girl, against the will of his father. Right from the beginning Jitendra was very ambitious. Watching his ambition Subinay sent Jitendra to England at his expense after getting him married with his daughter Maya. Upendranath was a very adamant kind of person. After knowing about his son's marriage and leaving for England, he disowned Jitendra and told him not to come back home again. Jitendra never came back to his village again. Jitendra's brother Satyendra's idol was his elder brother. Satyendra married Devi. Devi was a very simple village girl. She always wanted her husband to be happy and for that she gave her ornaments to Satyendra to organise his studies. But Satyendra always wanted an educated and modern girl as his wife. Upendra wanted Satyendra to work as a teacher in the village school. Devi also wamted the same thing. But Satyendra did not want to live in the poverty striken village. So he went to the city to meet his brother Jitendra. Jitendra did not know that Satyendra was already married. His barrister friend Mr. Chatterjee was searching for a good match for his daughter Ela's marriage. Satyendra concealed his marital status to Jitendra, Maya and his woud be father-in-law and Ela. When the marriage came near, striken by his conscience, he revealed the truth about his marriage with Devi to his brother Jitendra and his wife. Upendranath got anxious and Satyendra did not return after meeting Jitendra. He sent a village youngman Prakash to bring news of Satyendra from the city. Upendra could not belive what Prakash said after returning. So he went to the city to bring back Satyendra. But it was too late. The marriage of Satyendra and Ela was over and Satyandra left for England. Ela was in dark about Satyendra's first wife Devi. It was not the end of tragedy in Upendranath's life. His only daughter Bhabani's husband died suddenly. Upendranath came to meet Bhabani. But suprisingly there was no tears in his eyes. Devi was living alone. She was very ill. In the mean time Satyendrahad came back from England. Hearing about Devi's illness Satyendra and Jitendra came with Ela and Maya to their bed side. Devi was about to die. Jitendra's elder daughter Brithi only asked her whether she had any complain against Satyendra. Devi said she had no complain against Satyendra and said that she was her husband.
