Deep is an eminent poet and writer. He in known as the "Pride of India" and the "revolutionary poet" but his books are neglected. The publishers prefer cheap novels and detective stories which are in demand. He is living in a chawl as a poor man. . Deep has a brother named Ashok who very much resembles him. Ashok is living at Lucknow with his mother. He is in final B.A. In order to provide for Ashoks ecamination fees, Deep had to write the story of a great dacoit "Daku Sangram", as the publisher insists on it. . The money sent by Deep does not arrive in time. Ashoks name is struck off the rolls. Ashok decides to earn for himslef and to relieve the burden of his brother. He comes to Bombay from Lucknow. On arrival at the chawl of his brohter, he comes to know that his brother has been turned out of his tenement. Not only this but the creditors of Deep take Ashok for his brother and take away all of his belongings. Ashok without a paise in his pocket is wandering in the streets of Bombay in search of his brother. The police take him for criminal and shut him up in a jail. Ashok finds in the jail a copy of "Daku Sangram" written by his brother Deep. Deep has written in the book, "Sangram finds in his early life that the law of wealth prevails in the land. Labour is a blind street where people are compelled to beg gold". These thoughts make a deep impression on Ashok. When he his out of jail, he forms a gang of robbers and begins to rob people and makes himslef known as "Sangram". . Deep discovers that the crime novel Daku Sangram which he has written in order to pay the fees of his brother has made him a docit. He meets him and persuades him to take to path of honesty but Ashok has gone too far to retrace his steps and he turns away from his brother. . Ashok disguises himslef as Deep and commits robbery at the house of Deeps beloved Rajkumari Laj, where the father of Laj. Raja maheshwary Prasad is murdered. . The Raja sahib in his dying declaration says that Deep has shot him mistaking the one brother for the other. . Deep is arrested, He realises that in order to bring his brother to the right path, he will have to make a great sacrifice. In the Court he admits that he is "Daku Sangram".
