Bhanu Pelo Lottery 1958

Bhanu Pelo Lottery is a 1958 Indian Bengali comedy film released on 1958. The film is directed by M. G. S. Unit.

This is an all time classic comic tale of Bhanu Chitrakar (Bhanu Bandyopadhyay). Bhabu gets a lottery ticket from his peer Jahar (Jahar Roy) and in the thoughts of winning the first prize (3 lakhs 90 thousand) dreams that he has already won the first prize. Bhanu dreams that Jahar is taking him to Kolkata to claim the cash from the office of Lag Bhelki Sweep Lottery Office. After taking the prize money the duo decide to savour on it for a while. At this juncture Mimi ( Kuntala) the stenographer in Jahar's uncle (Kamal Mitra) office leaves her job with the idea of becoming an actress. She flirts win Jahar and makes him fall for her. But when Jahar discovers her intentions of using people as a step to achieve success Mimi abandons him and pounces upon the simple and timid Bhanu. Bhanu, a villager and a complete mismatch in the fast urban life gets attracted by Mimi's appealing behaviour and while Jahar is working at the office these two roam around Kolkata and romance each other. But the foolish Bhanu does not realize that Mimi is doing all these only because of she wants his money. In the mean while Dayal reports to Jahar about Bhanu's whereabouts and gives him solid proof in support. Jahar breaks down when he learns that his friend and his love both have betrayed him together and he transforms into an alcoholic. Bhanu and Jahars investment of RS. 20,000 in shares gets a huge profit, but neverthere Bhanu's betrayal continues to tickle Jahar's subconscious mind and ultimately he threatens Bhanu with a revolver and tells him not to mingle with Mimi. Mimi continuously avoids Jahar but when Jahar captures the couple red handed at a park and Bhanu flees away she confides in Jahar. Bhanu escapes and runs through the streets of North Kolkata. Finally Bhanu latches on to a gas balloon and after a while when he falls down he wakes up to discover that he was in a dream. Bhanu finally wins the lottery prize in reality, but when Jahar comes to take him to Kolkata to collect the bounty Bhanu tells Jahar that the dream has taught him not to leave and forget everyone and become an isolated millionaire but to serve the nation and the society with this money. In the end Bhanu distributes the entire amount amongst the down trodden masses of his village.
