Story

Bhoy is a 2011 Indian Bengali horror, drama film released on Feb 25, 2011. The film is directed by Subhendu Ghosh, produced by Saibal Chakraborty.

A young couple is on the lookout for a place to rent. With the help of a broker, they find a house whose owner Mr. Bhattacharya tells them that the previous tenant of the house, a young lady had commited suicide with her son. From the very day, people around them start acting weird and in fact Rupsha witnesses uncanny happenings in the house. Later on the spirit of the previous tenant who was also called Rupsha takes over the body of Rupsha and she is possessed. In fact she also murders the chowkidar as she is now possessed.Amitava, her husband gets a psychiatrist who tells him that his wife has a multiple personality personality. His maidservant tells him to get a tantrik to solve the situation as his wife is possessed by a spirit. The tantrik and the psychiatrist solve the mystery-the previous tenant Rupsha had been raped and murdered by the landlord Mr. Bhattacharya’s son, Joy and the chowkidar and the chowkidar had also killed the young boy of Rupsha.Rupsha(Amitava’s wife) becomes normal and no one stays in that house any more.

The AC in the theatre was a bit too cold for comfort. The girlfriends sat huddled with their men, while the wives inched closer to their hubbies. The kids found solace either in a tiny scream or a tub full of popcorn to divert attention from the big screen. And to make matters more scary, the screeches, ghosts, possessed characters with red contact lenses and 'haunting' melodies did their bit to evoke 'Bhoy' among the viewers. The story unfolds with Amitabh (Amitabh) and Rupsha (Monami) looking for a house. They find a sprawling mansion but the owner cautions them, saying that the earlier tenant had committed suicide in the house. Rupsha, though wary of moving in, gives in to her husband's pleadings. She gets curious about what lies behind a locked door which has no keys. Her maid, Mala's (Sarbori) mysterious smile and the watchman's smirk keep youinterested in the unravelling of the plot. So far, so good. But then, the storyline follows the much-familiar track of all horror stories. "Bhoy" is no different from usual horror flicks, which generally settle for soft targets like women and children to bring in the scary element. Rupsha, who keeps hearing the "Raat namey" song, starts seeing the ghost of the earlier tenant, also called Rupsha! She gets possessed by her spirit and in true RGV horror style, displays dishevelled hair, red eyes, incoherent speech, the works. When one is possessed, there are two solutions in store, one from a psychiatrist and another, from a witch doctor. Here too, going by the horror laws, Abhishek plays Dr Abhishek Ghosh, who assesses Rupsha's condition and concludes that it is 'multiple personality disorder'. Satabdi is the witch doctor, Anamika, who delves into the past to find a solution to the present. Slowly, you find the 'bhoy' being dispelled, thanks to the shoddy camerawork, editing and a predictable plot. Monami's possessed woman act is memorable. Amitabh too does justice as Rupsha's concerned husband, though he doesn't have much to do as a psychiatrist. But the person who stands out with her attire, bindi and dialogue delivery is Satabdi.
