For most of us, the festive season is also about entertaining ourselves with a Bollywood biggie. Following two blockbuster Eid releases in the last two years, WANTED [2009] and DABANGG [2010], Salman Khan, the darling of the masses, unleashes yet another entertainer this Eid [this time, it coincides with Ganesh Chaturthi] -- BODYGUARD. The buzz around a Salman movie only got bigger this year, but the pertinent question is, will Salman deliver yet another festive hit

On the whole, BODYGUARD works for varied reasons — it has a simple, but captivating story with a dramatic twist in the tale, the chemistry between the lead actors is perfect and the music is well juxtaposed in the narrative. But its biggest USP is, without doubt, Salman Khan. He carries the film on his broad and brawny shoulders and that alone is the imperative reason for watching this film. BODYGUARD should emerge his third festive hit and fourth super-success at the ticket window. Expect a hurricane called BODYGUARD to strike at the box-office.

When the movie ends, BODYGUARD Lovely Singh's story begins. That's how innocent a character he is and Salman Khan is action personified, playing abondhu in love and a maniac when it comes to performing his duty. Both characters balanced with the uncanny knack which he has been displaying of late. If Chulbul Pandey from DABAANG was dangerous, Lovely Singh is suave. There is no cockiness to this character which Salmanis generally associated with

The first half of the film flows smoothly while the second half grips you with its unexpected twists.

Bodyguard is a film which, although fitting to the season and celebration of Eid, may find it hard to create and leave a mark with the audiences. It’s a movie which will be known for its light-hearted scenes more than those with the dishoom-dishoom, if remembered at all.

A Salman Khan film almost always defies all logic, simply because it follows its own norms at the box office, irrespective of the quality of the product. All that the film needs to have the crowds milling, cheering and growing nearly hysterical is the trademark Salman touch. This essentially means a high-on-testosterone Salman, a pelvic-pushing Salman, a devil-may-care Salman, a can-do-anything Salman, a human tornado Salman, a goofy-in-love Salman

First day, first show, first row. It could only be a Salman Khan film. Only five days back, I was inside the incredibly empty Screen 2 of Fame cinema reviewing Shabri. Before slumping into a silly space of trashy humour and hasty sentimentality, Bodyguard intermittently comes alive with a swashbuckling Sallu engaging in some SFX-aided action.

I was made familiar with the story of the original Bodyguard (in Malayalam) about a year ago and couldn’t help but wonder how silly it was. When the Hindi remake was announced, I hoped the story would be tweaked (especially the way it ends) to make it a better, more enjoyable film. As I watched the Hindi version, I realised the plot had been left untouched. And it was still just as silly. This is the third time for Siddique. Yes, believe it or not, this is the third time that the writer-director has chosen to film this yucky yarn in the span of a year and a half – first in Malayalam, then in Tamil and now in Hindi, effecting minor changes in each follow-up without achieving any perceptible improvement. Water gushes out of a hosepipe, strikes at his tight black shirt. This is the climax sequence. You know what'll happen. The shirt starts tearing off from the buttons, finally comes off, flies straight into the villain's face. Half naked, middle-aged hero, knee deep in water, flexes his bulging biceps, shows off a shaved, sculpted chest, near-perfect abs, before bashing the hell out of that villain, and his tired army. This is what old-timers in Bollywood would call the "highlight"
