Chand 1959

Chand is a 1959 Indian Bollywood social film released on 1959. The film is directed by Lekhraj Bhakri.
To no one does God give everything, so goes the saying. This was true of Mr. Kapoor, who had considerable wealth, excellent health and a charming devoted wife Kamla. The one thing he did not have, was an offspring. Kamla, who could not herself bear her a child, succeeds in persuading him to marry again. She arranges the marriage through munimji at whose instance she even pays Rs. 20, 000 for being given to Darogaji, the girls father. This amount however is fradulently retained by munimji himself. . On the wedding night, Mr. Kapoor does not share the bed with his new bride Vimla, and on the following morning he confesses to Vimla his love for Kamla and offers to release her from the bond of marriage. Vimla is shocked to hear all that but she prefers a loveless life to the dissolution of marriage. She becomes more bitter when she learns that her father had taken Rs. 20, 000 for giving her away. Therefore, when a son is born to her and Darogaji comes to see his grandchild, she insults him and orders him out. But when subsequently the truth is known by her, Vimla decides tostay with her father and sends him to get her child. Kamla however refuses to send the child to her and Vimla moves the court for the its custody. The impact of an adverse judgement is so great that she losses her mind and has to be removed to a mental hospital. Her yearnining for Chand, her son, is so overpowering that she runs away from the hospital, kidnaps her child from her husbands house and heads for the creek, in a thrilling climax Mr. Kapoor saves his wife and chiild, and how Vimla regains her mind and the love of her husband in a touching sequence should best seen on the screen to be fully appreciated and enjoyed .
