Story


Chirag is a 1969 Indian Bollywood social film released on 1969. The film is directed by Raj Khosla, produced by Premji.

Ajay Singh (Sunil Dutt) meets Asha Chibber (Asha Parekh), and is led to believe that she belongs to a wealthy family. After a few misunderstandings, he does find out that she is a simple girl living a poor lifestyle. Both do fall in love, and Ajay goes to meet with Asha's brother, Dr. O.P. Chibber (Om Prakash), and his wife, Shanti (Sulochana Latkar). They are pleased to meet him, and Ajay's mother, Gayetridevi (Lalita Pawar) visits them and approves of Asha. Ajay and Asha get married and settle down. After marriage Asha is expected to conceive, but she is unable to do so. After a certain incident she also loses her eyesight and becomes dependent on Ajay. Frustrated Gayetridevi decides to ask Asha to leave the house, and arranges a second marriage for Ajay, an act which will change the lives of everyone in the house.


Ajay, the scion of the age old prosperous family of Thakurs, and Asha, the apple of the eyes of her elder brother. Dr. Chhibbar found the light of life in their live for each other. Love, that brought them together, bound them together in holy martimony Love that transcended all barriers. . Ajays widowed mother welcomed the daughter-in-law to the big house as an embodiment of all her hopes. Asha would take over the burden of responsibilities of the household and the estate, and would mother the next scion of the dynasty. . But fate is the hunter. Sevan years of martial bliss brought in its wake everyting one could wish except the much wanted child. . As if that was not enough, the seventh Diwali celebration came to an abrupt half as a huge cracker exploded right in Ashas face plunging the husedhold in utter darkness. . . And darkness it would be, for ever Asha had lost her eyes. . Ajays distraught mother was galvanised into action by the language of domm written on the wall. With the connivance of the wily Munim, Ajay was sent ot stay with Sandhya, a prosepective bride to be and in its absence Asha was prevailed upon to leave the house with a soleman promise of never to return. . Asha made the supreme sacrilifce. "We live for those who love us and we die for those whom we love." . Asha was now but a memory but Ajays love transcended all barriers- even that of death. . Ajays mother must have her own way she would bring Sandhya as the new daughter-in-law. . Sandhya, already in love with her college mate Prashant was at her wits end. .
