Story

College Girl is a 1978 Indian Bollywood social film released on Aug 24, 1978. The film is directed by Shantilal Soni, produced by S. D. Kashyap.

Shanti Lal Soni has dedicated his film College girl to "college girls from middle class families". The film talks about the value systems of middle class families and their problems.
Dr. Shri Ram Lagoo and his wife live with their two college-going daughters in a modest house and try to live as happily as possible in the limited income of the bread-earner of the family who works in a jewellery store. Asha, the elder daughter is in love with Ravi while Madhu shares a lot of her time with her friends.
Dr.Lagoo being a trusted employee is asked to deliver a box of jewellery worth 4 lakh rupees to a certain family in Jaipur. However, a group of miscreants getting wind of the matter attack him in the train, snatch the jewellery case and throw him from the train. The poor man does survive, but he is driven out from his work place on grounds of breach of trust. This leads to the inability of paying the house rent for which the family is asked to vacate the house.
In the meanwhile, Madhu the younger daughter gets into bad company and once when her mother asks her to sell a necklace for money, she is trapped and the necklace is forcefully taken away from her. In an attempt to get some money for the family, Madhu gets deceived and one incident leads to the other till she finds herself in the vortex of a bad trap. Unable to escape from there, she is forced to lead a life of deception and treachery. All this adds to the bad reputation of the family which has been growing ever since the father's unemployment.
The second part of the film centres around Madhu's confusion, disillusionment and catastrophies. She is promised marriage by Sudhir who turns out to be a gangster. When Madhu realises this she tries to escape. On the way she encounters her family who have been trying desperately to find her. Madhu's complicated trap does not give her an easy respite and she has to walk the entire gamut of courts, cops and jails.
At this juncture her elder sister Asha who by this time has successfully completed her course in Law steps in to rescue her sister and the jailed father. Though it is not an easy fight, finally good does win over evil and the wicked are rightly punished. The film ends with the romantic duo wistfully singing "Pyar maanga hai tumhi se...".
The film is called College Girlto educate the audience of the mid 70's and 80's about the vulnerabilty of the youth who may be lured by power and pelf. Many of the facts present in the film may not have any relevance today but the main message is still very important. Today's youth are also torn between the two worlds and it is quite often that their immaturity takes them to catastrophic destinations of no return.

A film stressing the need for womens education through the story of two daughters of a middle class family. While the elder daughter studies hard, the younger one spends her time with rich society girls. Their father loses his small job and the younger one falsely implicated in a murder charge. The elder sistr saves her from the charge. Check out this page for more updates on College Girl.
