A home, especially an Indian home, in which the family ties are unbroken for generations, represents a country or humanity itself in a miniature form with all its cross-currents. Like a nation or group of nations, the different branches of family can live in peace with each other in a spirit of amity and goodwill or be divided against each other out of spite, jealousy, hatred and selfish gains. . This is the story of a typical Indian family which symbolizes the cross-sections of humanity, and it symbolizes the living truth that the flames of hatred, jealousy and selfishness can destroy a family, a home in the same way as it can destroy a state, a Nation or World itself and that love and peace fostered by sacrifice and goodwill can alone save a Home or a Nation. . Daadi maa was the Head of an aristocratic family. But blinded by jealousy and selfishness, she sowed the seeds of hatred by ill-treating her step-son Raja Pratap Rai, trying to deprive him of his legitimate rights by promoting the claims of her own son Kanwar, In the flames of hatred and bitterness, the first victim was Daadi Maas son Knanwar who died now Daadi Maa waited for Kanwars pregnant wife to give birth to a son so that she could take revenge on her step son. . But the daughter-in-law, out of disgust left the home. She gave birth to a son and just before her death handed him over to Dr. Bharat, Raja Pratap Rais brother-in-law who was denied entry into his sisters house. In fact, his sister Parvati had to leave her home because of him. . Parvati also gave birth to a son. And if Raja Pratap Rai and Daadi Maa had their way the two sons, Somu and Shanker would have grown up into sworn enemies. But Parvati brought them up as her own sons. In fact, she had to make an unusual sacrifice and pretend that Somu, her son was an orphan while Shanker, her brother-in-laws son was her own son ! . Despite this sacrifice, the flames of hatred continued to consume the family. Ganga, Raja Pratap Rais sister fanned the fire with all her vigour. Her husband Mahesh, however, did his best to extinguish these flames. Both Somu and Shanker were also affected by these family feuds and their own lives were threatened by it. But Parvatis sacrifice could not go in vain. She succeeded ultimately in bringing home to both Daadi Maa and her husband, Pratap Rai, the futility of the war of hatred and bitterness in a most touching manner with the help of her brother. The entire family was once again united in cordiality and goodwill. [Soures : Booklet] Check out this page for more updates on Daadi Maa.
