Daktar 1940

Daktar is a 1940 Indian Bengali drama,family,romance film released on 1940. The film is directed by Phoni Mazumdar.

When Amarnath returned to his village after the completion of his medical degrees,he found the village grappling with cholera. He promised to help the villagers. One day after returning from a hard day's work he came to know that Bani Chakraborty was about to die. He rushed but could not save Bani. He could save his daughter Maya. He took the responsibiliites of Maya at the request of the dying Bani. Hearing this his father Sitanath was annoyed. A confrontation started between father and son. Amarnath left his house with wife Maya. They set up a small hospital "Pally Mangal Seba Sadan" in a village far away from their house. Maya died during labour. Dayal, an old servant, one day found Amarnath. He tried to get him back to his house but Amarnath did not agree. Amarnath handed over the responisbility of his son to Dayal. He also gave a condition - to conceal the idenity of the child before Sitanath. Twenty five years later Somnath, son of Amarnath, became a doctor. Somnath, inspired by Amarnath's ideology got busy in establishing a medicine factory in Roy's house. Shibani also got close to Somnath. Somnath informed Dayal that he would marry Shibani. Dayal conveyed this to Sitanath. One day Somnath came to know his true identity. Somnath left the house of Sitanath. Dayal went to Amarnath to request him to take his promise back. Amarnath fell into a dilemma. At last he agreed to break his promise. Somnath came to know he was the son of Somnath, Sitanath came to know that Somnath was his grandson. At last Somanth married Shibani.
