Much before I watched DELHI BELLY, I was told very categorically that the film will reduce to rubble the image of Aamir Khan, the producer, which he has very painstakingly and meticulously built over the years. I disagree with this viewpoint. Sure, Aamir Khan steps into a territory that is least expected of him. Every now and again comes a film that redefines the cinema of a country, infusing adrenalin into the incredibly staid world of Bollywood. The last time such a seismic event came to pass in the industry was when Dil Chahta Hai released in 2001. It created a template for innumerable imitations, if not in content, then in style. Delhi Belly, most would know, is a fairly common bowel problem. Usually firangi, low-budget backpackers get these loosies, when they hang out in Third World countries (like ours), where their food and water supposedly comes mixed with 10 per cent shit. So who's the real hero of the film? Is it writer Akshat Verma who has given Bollywood one of its smartest scripts to hit the horizon since a long long time? As a comedy, Delhi Belly is such a refreshing change from the run-of-the-mill Hindi film laugh riot which almost always borders on the juvenile. The humour is all situational, beautifully woven in the script and never having to depend on a banana peel skid. Grow up all you comedy filmmakers who insist on treating your audience

Seeking its spirit from Guy Ritchie's cult classic Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels (1998), morerecently employed in Bollywood films like 99 and Sankat City, Delhi Belly polishes the crime-comedy genre by a few notches despite its unrefined ambience. Packed with rude humor and made with the intention to shock you, 'Delhi Belly' is a filthy comic thriller that works because it's a smartly paced wild-ride. Mind you, it doesn't have a madly inventive story. Yet with sharp performances and a tight script by Akshat Verma, it's 90 minutes well spent. Delhi Belly is a cocky, pacy film that sets out to make us laugh hysterically and won’t stop at nothing. It abuses, sings a dirty song, farts, belches, lays out shit on a red velvet cloth, and it has a story. Sort of. Though the film's basic premise and the craziness around it is inspired by Guy Ritchie’s Snatch, Delhi Belly’s characters and quirks are totally desi, its dialogue memorable and its humour clever and killing.

It's fun and funny, modest and yet quite nutty. Three strugglers with too little money and too much bad luck. This is an udta hua chauka which Aamir Khan can safely call a chhakka again.

The advertisements will tell you that Delhi Belly is strictly for adults and that it’s 96 minutes long and that it doesn’t have an interval and that there are two versions — one ‘original’ Hinglish and the other Hindi. But that doesn’t tell you everything. Perhaps you need to keep a few things in mind before buying your ticket this weekend. 1. You may never be able to drink orange juice again. Well, at least, not the way you used to. 2. You may never be easy again

Two men are introduced. A stuffy young fellow -- who smokes cheroots and speaks as if Henry Higgins popped a hot samosa into his mouth because marbles just didn't cut it -- asks the other, one of the film's protagonists, a lad with an unfortunate jheri-curl situation, what he does for a living. "I'm a cartoonist." "Oh, like Chacha Choudhary?", asks the pompous one, absurdly showing off his utter obliviousness. The other guy rolls his eyes, of course

Delhi Belly is a slick, madly crazy production that is mostly funny -- although the humour will more likely appeal to the 20-something and perhaps 30-something public school educated, English speaking, big city audience that the film targets through its previews, videos and playful songs (from a spoof on K L Saigal's voice, to one that may or may not allude to a curse word). But I know for sure that my mother and just about everyone of her generation will be totally turned off watching Delhi Belly.

There's a scene in DELHI BELLY in which Nitin (Kunaal Roy Kapur) has a stomach upset and goes to the loo every now and then. After a couple of visits, the water tap runs dry. Unable to find a single drop of water in the entire house, he uses orange juice kept in the freezer to well, "complete his job". DELHI BELLY has several such gross scenes, but they do manage to evoke laughter. It's about three friends and flatmates whose lives go haywire

Did the cinema audience need another epic cinematic clash between Autobots and Decepticons? After the crushing disappointment of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, I expected the series to lay low but I probably did not account for Michael Bay's enthusiasm and the studio's greed for lucre. Dark of the Moon is coherent -- every little detail is explained to everyone's satisfaction but the lay-up towards the final climactic plunge is so boredom
