Isspired apparently by Dovzhenkos cinema, Nitin Boses call for a technological revolution in the agrarain sector through collective farming is presented in the guise of a love story. Ashok (Saigal) goes to a village, mobilises the peasants, fights the oppression of the village headman and acheves buper crops. Childhood friend Ajoy (Sethi) goes to England to study mining technology and is determined to make a success of a mining project in the rural area where Ashok is working. Each has radically different ideas about what is best for an independent nation. Ajoys sister Protibha (Kumari), who loves Ashok, secretly finances Ajoys rural modernisation endeavours. Ajoy, unawa- re of this falls in love with Gauri (Umasashi), daughter of the social outcast Kunja (Dey). When Ajoy returns form England, he discovers that the best coalfields lie directly beneath Ashoks land. The crisis is manifested in a drought that threatens to destoyr Ashok work and prove Ajoys contentions right. Ajoy starts buying up the land but the rains arrive just in time to resurrect Ashoks rural- socialist drems. The music credit is shared by Pankaj Mullick, Umasashi and K.C.
