Dui Prithibi 1980

Dui Prithibi is a 1980 Indian Bengali drama film released on Jun 27, 1980. The film is directed by Pijush Bose.

Mrinal Dutta, the elder son of the family, is a reporter and the sole earning member. He has a sister whose marriage is almost fixed with their music teacher. The climax starts building up when brother Kunal Dutta returns a rich businessman. He spends money lavishly and becomes the most powerful person in the family with a house and a car. The sister's marriage is suddenly called off and a new alliance is sought after with the principal of a music school. The monetary differences between the two brothers start stemming up in various forms. Kunal unexpectedly marries a girl whose father was a freedom fighter. Kunal, however is very rude to his wife and one day she finds some evidence of Kunal being involved in smuggling. Kunal is eventually proved a smuggler. This leads to more problems in the family and sibling relationships are on doldrums. The sister's fiance takes advantage of her and impregnates her. During this time the police chase Kunal who comes begging for help from his brother. The police however arrest him and put him behind bars. After that the family pleads guilty. Kunal is punished for a term of 4 years. The sister's fiance takes responsibility of his insensitive act and all is fine with the family after a brief period of turmoil.

Mrinal Dutta (Uttam Kumar), by profession a Reporter in print media, is the elder son and also the only earning person of a bengali lower middle class family. He and his parents led a simple life with happiness in their old fashioned dwelling house in Kolkata. His father believes happiness lives in simplicity. He has a sister and a missing brother Kunal Dutta (Victor Banerjee). Mrinal's articles on economy/agriculture earns name to him in society. He used to cut his coat according to his cloth, categorically not more than that. This is the 1st life.

The 2nd life starts when his missing brother Kunal returned in their family as a businessman. He cannot accustomed with the ordinary life-style with their parents & Mrinal. He spends lavishly and mostly purchased his parents and sister with his wealth. Kunal purchased a house at New Alipore and lives with all family members with pomp and fanfare. They belonged to the Elite Society. Gradually he plans to arrange marriage of her sister with a musician who mislead her. Difference in opinion arose when Mrinal suspected the source of income of Kunal. At last Mrinal presumed her brother is not a simple businessman. At last Kunal arrested by police as he proved to be a smuggler and begging for help to Mrinal. Mrinal Dutta being strict in his principle did not help him. Police arrested Kunal and put him in jail. At last all family members realised the drawback of lavising life of Kunal and again started living as a lower middle class people with Mrinal.
