Story

Ei Aranya is a 2011 Indian Bengali drama film released on Mar 11, 2011. The film is directed by Somnath Sen.

Retired school master Ajit Dutta loves the forest, it’s trees and the surrounding areas where he lives. It is probably his intense love for the forests which makes people call him a mad person. He has two daughters. The younger daughter Antara was going around with Bivash, a theatre actor who had tried his best to protect the forests and it’s trees, but his efforts had gone in vain as he had been hacked to death by Santosh Yadav, a poacher who illegally use to destroy the trees by cutting them and selling them off. He had turned out to be the biggest threat.Bikram, the new forest officer comes to town and tries to set things in order. He also wins over Antara who finds him to be an ideal person like Bivash.

The title itself lets you in on the message of the film. Without much ado then, "Ei Aranya" is a discourse on afforestation and the need to stop those indulging in the illegal felling of trees. Bibhash (Ferdous) is untimely felled because he, along with his theatre group Aronyak, is raising a storm through their play Gach Chor. The man behind his murder is Santosh Yadav, who with law on his side, goes about his illegal affairs. In comes the new forest ranger Bickram (Abhishek), who takes up the cause of punishing the defaulters and standing by the family of mastermoshai and his two daughters, Sujata (Debasree) and Antara (Dipannita). The intention of this endeavour might have been constructive but the lack of a tight script, crisp editing and some faulty performances make the film a tiring watch. As a result, it comes across as too preachy because all that the characters eat, breathe, talk and discuss are trees and forests. A more subtle treatment of the same could have borne fruitful results.
