So when Nirmal, the eldest of his two sons, falls in love with and decides, to marry Mala, a stage actress, his father is so angry at his sons `cheap choice that he turns the newlyweds out of the house, This gives such a mortal blow to Nirmals mother that she dies-leavign behind a sorrow striken son (Anil), a 10 years old dughter and a penitent husband. A spoilt young girl named Shobha, whom the Rai bahadur ahd selected to marry Nirmal, is now married to his younger brohter Anil. . But, far from proving her father-in-laws pet theory regarding blood and family, Shobha turns out to be the very opposite of his idealhard, selfish, lazy and pleasure-loving. Her extravagance (coupled with a market crash0 reduces the family to penury and in next to no time she shows such deep concern over the strain on the familys reduced resources that she turns her aged father-in-law and his teenaged daughter out of the house! .
