Harjit is a 1957 Indian Bengali drama film released on Jan 18, 1957. The film is directed by Manu Sen.

Being financially weak Rajib and Soudamini are unable to fulfill the requirement of their only son Babul. Babul who takes a great interest in housie gets pampered by a family of his neighbourhood who doesn’t have any child. So the rich abundant family shower unlimited affection and love on Babul. They propose Babul's mother Soundamini to give them Babul's responsibility as they meant to adopt Babul. Being calculative Babul's father Rajib agrees to give Babul to the neighbour as he wants to secure Babul's father ?. Though Babul's mother Soudamini does'nt accept the decision, she unwillingly keeps Babul at neighbour's custody in Patna. She leaves for Kolkata with her husband Rajib. Reaching Kolkata, Rajib starts trying his luck in share market and soon he meets with success with the help of his smart business attitude and a friendly guy Ganesh but ignoring Ganesh's opinion, Rajib deprives an aged person Haranath renomically ?. Haranath dies with this shock and insures his wealth in the name of his grand son Rajat, a baby boy with the suggestion of Ganesh and inspired by the greed of Rajat's future wealth that is left by his grandfather, Rajib adopts Rajat which becomes a great consolation and contentment for Soudamini in whom Rajat took the place of Babul. Because missing ? Babul's presence ? when Soudamini dried ? fared ?Rajib to go to Patna for bringing Babul, Rajib came to know that their neighbour who kept Babul met with a boat accident and died. So hearing it, she assumed that Babul has expired which was a shocking news.But Babul somehow survives and struggles a lot to live. He manages to be a trainee under Mahipati, a dedicated selfless soul toward music. Babul after getting trained in housie, decides to sell his talent for money. At the same time Rajat being very geneous and interested in music decides to build a music school for children who can not afford for their music lession. For this noble cause, Rajat appoints Mahipati who is not ready to take a single penny in return of her talent on principle. The master Mahip and disciple Babul who is known as Surojeet gets involved in conflict. Rajat wants to hire Surojeet for his music school. Ganesh doesnt live. Surojeet mentality was to exploit Rajat financially, so he suggests to Rajat not to indulge ? Surojeet at the same time insults Surojeet ?when he came to Rajat's place during Rajat' s absence. Rajat and Mahipati's daughter Geeta fall in love with each other. Rajat takes Gita to Soudamini to take blessings. Soudamini blessed both of them. Rajat came to know the fact of Surojeet's childhood and reveals the facts to Soudamaini. Soudamini becomes mad to get back her lost son Surojeet but Surojeet shows jealousy to Rajat and gets possesive about every small trifle thing. Having this non-sharing ? mentality, Surojeet wants to claim Rajib's entire property. When accordingly Rajib was preparing his will to give the property to his lost son Surojeet, Rajat decides to leave the house, feeling ignored. Rajat misunderstood Geeta's feeling towards him. Ganesh suggests to Rajat to raise a court case against the conspiracy to make Rrajat deprived. Rajat wins the case with Soudamini's witness that revealed the fact the the property indeed belongs to Rajat. It was insured by his grandfather's harness ?. But when Rajat out of his generousness to sacrifice his property, he gets back his mother Soudamini and Surojeet as a brother and a glimpse of Geeta and Rajat's happy future was seen. Though Rajat died of heart attack, his family became complete.
