Childhood ends, this time forever, with tears and howls, swirls of smoke, the shock of mortality and bittersweet smiles in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2, the grave, deeply satisfying final movie in the series. A pop cultural happening extraordinaire, the Potter movies took uncertain flight in 2001 with Harry, then an orphan of 11, home alone with his grotesquely unloving relatives. Times were grim, at least off screen — the first opened in November

For ten years, it has all been leading up to this moment. 'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows part 2', the final episode in the eight-part movie saga, culminates in the awaited showdown between the teenage wizard and his lifelong nemesis Lord Voldemort, who finally enters the gates of Hogwarts to seek out Harry. At roughly 2 hours and 10 minutes, Deathly Hallows Part 2 is the shortest film in the series, and understandably the most grim

Okay, the franchise had been losing steam, but rejoice, universal hero Harry Potter gets a grand finale with Deathly Hallows Part 2. There's drama, action, terror, danger, death, special effects and loads of magic as the world's three most loved fictional characters meet their final destiny. But what makes the film really special is the high emotional quotient as heroes emerge from nowhere, lovers exchange love and longing neath the shadow of death and friends give a whole new meaning to friendship. Many a times, the film touches your heart and fills your eyes with a strange mistiness... something that rarely happened in the last few encounters.

Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows Part 2 is a juggernaut of a movie, epic at times, poetic at others. Actually, it is so good that you wish all the films had been this good. Especially after watching the trio of Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson (too pretty to be Hermione, but that's not a complaint) and Rupert Grint mature into such fine actors. They have become Harry Potter, Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley; that is their triumph. These are roles of a lifetime, and the kids deserve a round of applause.

With this epic finale for the Harry Potter series, director David Yates can take a bow. A job well done, the film is a tight and crackling adventure that no Muggle can quibble with. The script has done away with unnecessary emotional drama and subplots that could’ve bogged down the pace. It’s a stunning, visual treat and a very enjoyable ride as you fondly say goodbye to a much-loved series. Potter fans, rejoice. The decision to keep it simple also means

There is a scene in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 where the venerable Prof McGonagall (Dame Maggie Smith) casts a number of enchantments upon the castle of Hogwarts in preparation for the ultimate showdown with Lord Voldemort and his Death Eaters. Alexandre Desplat's score rises beautifully to match the gravitas of the moment as the knights of Hogwarts solemnly march out in a single file to protect the perimeter

This was the film that was supposed to put it all together, to put it out there what made Harry Potter one of the most successful book series ever and the highest grossing film series of all time. Yes, there were the “death eaters” who lived amongst your midst, the dementors who sucked the life out of you, and the evil that could not be named. And yes there were the friendships, the magic, the love and the longing often bespoken. But what put J K Rowling’s books apart
