Story, Synopsis, Trivia, Dialogues for Haseena Maan Jayegi (1968)

Haseena Maan Jayegi is a 1968 Indian Bollywood social film released on 1968. The film is directed by Prakash Mehra, produced by Indu Bhooshan under banner named Mangatram Films, music composed by Kalyanji-Anandji.

Kamal (Shashi Kapoor) and Archana (Babita) are in love with each other and are to marry soon. Shortly after their marriage, Kamal is called to the front as war has broken out. While preparing for war be meets with Rakesh (also shashi Kapoor) his look-alike. Rakesh plans to kill Kamal and take his place with the beautiful Archana, but Kamal will not have him have his way, both fight and eventually Kamal emerges as the winner. He is in a dilemma for he knows he has killed Rakesh. So he runs from the front and goes home to his wife, Archana who is happy to see him back. Army personnel think Rakesh has become a deserter and also think that Kamal is missing in action and believed dead. The army personnel notify Archana, who is thrown in a dilemma, is it Rakesh or Kamal that she has been spending time with?

Two identical look-alikes Kamal and Ramesh (Kapoor in both roles) love Archana (Babita). She loves Kamal, but often mistake the one for the other. The evil Ramesh tries to take advantage of this resemblance to have Kamal kidnapped on the day of their marriage, but becomes the victim of his own play when his benchmen make the same error as everyone else. The plot expands to take in the India-China War (1962) as Kamal enlists and Ramesh once again tries to kill him. When only one of the two emerges from a muddy pond, the audience is inducted into the confusion as Archana, who initially accepts the man as her husband, starts getting suspicious and eventually has him arrested for impersonation. It is only when Ramesh reappears that the man she has been living with is revealed to be indeed her husband. Mehra (of Zanjeer, 1973, Muqaddar Ka Sikandar, 1978) in his debut reveals only one element of his trademark plotting in this convoluted film, that of Kamals killegitamacy and unknown parentage.
