Hum Dono 1961
Hindi 1961 (India)
Story
Navketan Films' last black and white film Hum Dono (1961) gets a splash of colour and its new avatar is called Hum Dono Rangeen. The colorisation has been done by Legend Films.
Mahesh Anand and Major Verma have two things in common. Both are in the army and both look-alike. When Major Verma is missing in action (MIA) in Burma Campaign during World War II, believed dead (KIA) during the battle, Mahesh is asked to convey this news to his family. Upon arrival, he is mistaken for Major Verma. He meets with Verma's mom, Mrs. Verma, as well as his ailing wife, Ruma. Unable to break the news of Verma's death and shatter their fragile world, Mahesh gets mistaken as Verma and is welcomed home. This creates complications in Mahesh's life as his sweetheart, Meeta, thinks that Mahesh no longer loves her. Then Ruma finds out that her husband is in love with another woman. Mahesh finds himself in a deep quandary, for he is unable to confide to anyone, and the only one who can assist him find his way back to his own life and family - is Major Verma
Dev Anand plays two identical-looking soldiers, the comrades in arms Capt. Anand and Major Verma, in this (for Navketan) unusually excessive melodrama and major hit. Anand is in love with Mita (Sadhana) while Verma is married to Ruma (Nanda). When Verma is persumed dead, Anand has to take care of Ruma, endangering his relationship with Mita, esp.since Ruma mistakes Anand for her real husband. When Verma turns up again, severely crippled, he believes Anand has taken his place in his home. The resolution comes when all four characters meet in a temple. Some of the films most successful songs including Asha Bhosle and Mohammed Rafis duet Abhi na jao chhod kar and Lata Mangeshkars bhajan Allah tero naam.
