The trap recoils on the trapper! Indra, in his anxiety to save his godson Arjun from Surya Kumar Karna, came in the guise of a Brahmin and managed to deprive him of the KAWACH AND KUNDAL, the secret of his strength, but, in exchange, Indra had to part, with much loss of grace with the Amogh Shakti. It was, indeed, a bad bargain for Indra, as, with the infallible Shakti with Karna now, he could still play with Aarjuns life. . Indras plans having been misfired, his solicitude for the safety of his godson set him thinking. Of course, necessity is the mother of invention. One failure proves forerunner of another planning. But this time he hit upon a strage and queer step. Indra used Hidimba, the jungle girl, as his pawn by creating a yearing in her mind for a child of her conception. Hidmbs death at the hands of Bhim in a freefight between the two, also went a long way to impress the girl of her mans chivalry and she completely sold herself to him. It was initiating chivalrous Bhim into new experiences, but, indeed, it was a pleasant surprise for him. He relegated himself completely to the rejoicings of his new environments. But on the eve of Hidimbas dreams being interpreted, Kunti warned Bhim of his duties. Mothers remonstrations served as awakening for Bhim. Quite oblivious of his sentiments, he left the place with his mother and brothers. Gay Hidimba, in the happiest mood, went to claim her man formally from his people, but she was shocked to find that they had all left for some unknown destina- tion. Bhims unceremonial disappearance, on the other hand, ingnited her craving for a child. She roamed like a mad person in search of her man. . At Ek-Chakra-Nagari, Bhim had to face another demon Bakasur. The news of Bakasurs death brought in a new ray of hope for Hidimba and at last led her trace Bhim. But Kunti, torn between duty and affection, stood as an iron curatain between the two lovers. Kuntis emphatic "No" to Hidimabas earnest pleadings proved a last straw for the girl. But Indra feared his plans being sabotaged in Hidimbas determination to end her life at the altar of her frustrated besires by preparing a funeral pyre for herself. However, Indra would not admit defeat so easily and rushed from his heavenly abodes not only to permit Hidimba to stay with Bhim till the birth of a child but also to bless the couple. Hidimba was immensely pleased but her happiness was proverbi- ally short lived. She was blessed with the consummation of her wishes in the gift of a child Ghatotakach but at the cost of leavign her husband with a wrench. .
