Ittefaq 1969

Ittefaq is a 1969 Indian Bollywood suspense film released on 1969. The film is directed by Yash Chopra, produced by B. R. Chopra under banner named B R Films.

A woman is scared to death when an accused murderer, escaped from a mental hospital, lands at her doorstep during a stormy night to seek refuge at her place.

The key character in the movie is an artist called Dilip Roy (Rajesh Khanna). Soon Dilip marries a pretty girl called Sushma, who is very demanding. She feels neglected when he spends his time on his paintings. There is an argument on their anniversary, when Sushma, attacks his paints and takes away his brushes. Dilip in a fit of rage, strangles his wife with his bare hands. Sushma's sister, witnesses this, and calls the police. Dilip is arrested and sent to an institute for psychiatric sessions with Dr. Trivedi (Jagirdar) .

Soon, Dilip escapes from this institute and breaks into a house with a lady called Nanda (Rekha) , in it, alone. Dilip decides to stay there for sometime as the police is looking for him.

However, there is a twist in the story which leaves Dilip also astounded.

Low-budget, songless suspense drama in which the hero Dilip Roy (Khanna), accused of having murdered his wife and pronounced mentally insane, escapes from an asylum and finds refuge in the house of a young but married woman. He sees the corpse of her husband in the bathroom, but it disappears. Shot mainly on sets, the taut editing keeps the whoudunit plot enigmatic until the ending resolves the suspense. It is one of Khannas pre-Aradhana (1969) hits. Apparently he appeared unshaven in Raj Khoslas Do Raaste (1969) because he had to be unshaven for Ittefaq and was shooting the two films simultaneously.
