Story


Jaal is a 1967 Indian Bollywood social film released on 1967. The film is directed by Moni Bhattacharya, produced by A. R. Khan under banner named New World Pics.

Inspector Shankar (Biswajeet) is assigned to investigate the mysterious death of Sunder Singh (Sujit Kumar). During this process, he meets a beautiful young and rich heiress named Sheil (Mala Sinha), who has an impaired memory, and is being looked after by Sunder Singh's aunt (Nirupa Roy). He falls in love with Sheila. Sheila confides in Shankar that she thinks she is haunted by a scarred-faced man. As the investigation progresses, Shankar gets the feeling that the results will change their lives forever.


Its a story of a man who doesnt exist. Its a story of a soul which doesnt perish. In this world some people do believe that the mortal death can not destory a soul which moves around near and near and near one till the eternity. . Shila, a rich young woman who lives with her father in the city. She was bethroed to one young, hand some Sunder Singh. Sunder was a paren- tless boy, who was brought up by his aunty who was almost to him a fostering mother. It wa an arranged marriage between Sunder and Shila but before the marriage took place Sunderdied in a motor Lunch accide- nt, Shilas father Seth Sohan Lal couldnt stand the shock and he becomes the victim of heart attack, Prior to his death he requests Shila to look after the poor aunty of singh who actually brought up Shila when she was just a child. Aunty comes and takes Shila to her home. Shila finds one thing very much disturbing and peculiar that aunty believes that Soul never dies She will keep Singhs linen press- ed, the food ready and make a bed for two in Shilas room. This obses- sion of her makes Shila sick some time. She finds a young man, lives in shack, a tenant of aunty. Shila confides the peculiarity of aunty, mood of obsession that every stormy night aunty thinks that Singh will come back. Some times she knocked the door of Shila, in the dead of night when the storm is in offing. Shanker asks her not to be worried, neither to be angry on aunty because it happens with every mother. . But one night it happens really-Shila distinctly heard the knock and saw Singh coming. A face half burned and charred approaching towards her. She looses her sense. Slowly it starts happening in every stormy night. Shila becomes mad, scared to death and slowly becomes as obses- sed as aunty. Shanker is worried about Shilas halth and mental condi- tion. He goes to the spot of accident to have the first hand knowledge about Singhs death, the man, a Light House keeper who was a witness to accident authenticates the death of Singh.
