Story

Jakher Dhan is a 1939 Indian Bengali drama, suspense film released on 1939. The film is directed by Hari Bhanja.

After the death of his grand father, Kumar and his mother found a human skull and a pocket book in an iron chest. In that pocket book it was written... "The address of the fortune of Yaksha- the ruins in the khasi hills." Only Karali Babu of the locality knew about the skull. Karali babu was a wicked person. One night placing the skull on the table, Kumar started reading the pocket book and the light went off. When the light came Kumar found the skull was missing from the table. Kumar went to Bimal's place to discuss the matter. Two days later while Kumar was coming to meet Lekha, sister of Bimal, a running car picked him up and vanished. After a few hours Bimal got the news that goons picked up Kumar for the pocket book and as they did not get that they had released him. After this incident Kumar decided to get back the skull by any means. They went to Karali Babu's house at 10 in the night. They found that the skull was there on the table. As they were about to pick it up they were trapped. Any how they were managed to escape from there and started for Khasia hills as per instruction of the pocket book. Lekha and Ramhani also accompained Kumar and Bimal. Karali's gang also started their journey by the same train. In the midway Kumar and others took shelter in a bungalow. Karali's gang attacked them there and took away a suitcase thinking that the pocket book might be there. But the pocket book was not there. As Ramhani fell ill they were bound to take shelter in a hilly village. A hilly girl Kading gave them shelter. Karali's gang attacked them there also. Kumar fainted when he was struck by a stick on his head. They snatched the pocket book from Bimal and threw him down from the hill. Kading went out to search for them. She found both Bimal and Kumar senseless. She cured both of them. After a few days they again started their journey. They found a ruin in the khasi hills. As per the direction written in the pocket book they reached a room after crossing a dark tunnel. There was a stone chest. Bimal open the lid of the chest and found there was nothing. Who stole the fortune of Yaksha? was it Karali? They could not decide. They came to the tunnel and found that the exit of the tunnel was closed by stone slabs. When they came out from the tunnel they saw that Karali was running in the hilly path with the fortune box in his hand. They ran faster and caught Karali and recovered the fortune from him.
