Story


Jallianwala Bagh is a 1987 Indian Bollywood historical film released on 1987. The film is directed by Balraj Tah, produced by Balraj Tah.
Udham Singh is accused of murdering Sir Michael O Dwyer ex Governer of Punjab, at his trial being held at the old Bailey court, London. V.K. Krishna Menon, the defence counsel, pleads with the court to look into the circumstances which provoked Udham Singh to take such an extreme steps. . The story is narrated in flashback. Udham reaches Amritsar from his native village Sunam. He observes the British authorities shouting down Satyagahis and perpetrating acts of humiliation and indignities upon the citizens of Amritsar. He arrives at the home of Chaudhary, a Gandhian leader. . Amar, Chaudharys son is committed to throw the British by the use of force. He is seen along with his colleagues assembling bombs and fire arms. Sonam, Amars wife, as usual gives money and her jewellery to Amar for the cause of the freedom struggle. She accecpts that both groups of believers of violence and non violence are sincere in their efforts to serve the motherland. . Sir Michael ODwyer, the Governor of Punjab, is furious over the violent situation developing in his province. He suspects the civil authority and asks General dyer he take over and crush the rebels. ODwyer further orders that if the troops have to open fire they should make an example of it. . Chaudhary condemns Amars violent methods and refuses to escape. Amar at Chaudharys persuasion surrenders his revolver promising to hold the public meeting at Jallion Wala Bagh unarmed and peacefully. Amar Udham and Sonam lead thousands of people in Jallianwala Bagh wihout any warning, General Dyer and his soldiers open fire at the crowd. Thousands are killed in mercilessly. Deepa is killed. Wounded Amar, before dying, makes Udham to promise to ask Chaudhary to avenge the masacre. . After years, Udham reaches London. He stays with Chaudhary. Udham is haunded by the memory of J.B. He joins a gorup of India Nationalists who are working for the liberation of India. Udham is penniless but keeps track of O Dwyers movements even at the risk of being arrested by the Sctoland Yard Police who are chasing him. Udham reach Carton Hall in a borrowed car. O Dwyer speaks at the public meeting in this hall. Udham Singh kills O Dwyer at this meeting. . Udham Singh is tried and sentenced to death. He is hanged at Pentonville Prison.
