Jamai Raja is a 1990 Indian Bollywood costume drama, comedy, family drama, drama film released on Oct 19, 1990. The film is directed by A. Kodandiramy Reddy, produced by T. Trivikarma Rao.
The quarrels between Mother-in-law and Daughter-in-law are very common thing in the Indian society. But in our admirable picture, there is a tough fight between Mother-in-law and Son-in-law. Millionaire Durgeshwari Devi is a very egoistic and very self-esteemed lady. She has two sons who are working for her in her own factory. Her daughter named as Rekha is pursuing in a medical college in Bombay. Due to Durgeshwari’s strictness, is afraid of Durgeshwari in the house. In Raja's home, his mummy Devki and his adopted sister Indu are living very happily. They are living very poor living. Raja is has to find a job in order to earn his existence. One day when he meets Rekha, he falls deeply in love with her. When Durgeshwari comes to know of this by her Secretary Shakti, she gets very angry. Raja gets engaged to Rekha secretly and marries her. Durgeshwari has to accept that Raja is her son-in-law and invites him home along with her daughter. But it is her keen aim that Rekha must be separated from Raja and she tries her best to create troubles in between them. But truth triumphs in their living. During the events that are unfurled, Durgeshwari finally considers Raja as her son-in-law.

Poor Raja marries Rekha, daughter of rich Durgeshwari Devi, a stubborn lady. Durgeshwari has to accept Raja as her son-in-law and invites him along with her daughter to stay in her house. But in reality she wants to separate Rekha from Raja at any cost. But Raja in turn ends up teaching a lesson to her.

Durgeshwari Devi (hema malini) is a authoritarian, and lives in a palatial home with her daughter, Rekha (madhuri), and two sons, Dheeraj and Neeraj. She permits her brother, nicknamed DDT(Anupam kher), and his close friend, also nicknamed BBC (satish kaushik), to live in her home, along-with her personal secretary, Shakti alias Pappu(shakti kapoor). She would like Rekha to get married to an equally wealthy family, but instead Rekha falls in love with a street-smart poor man named Raja (Anil kapoor), who though educated, is unemployed. Hoping to dissuade him from marrying Rekha, she tells him that she is prepared to give her consent to this marriage if he is willing to stay on in her home as a "ghar jamai" (recognized as a taboo in India). But her plans are foiled when Raja readily agrees to this condition, and in this way the marriage takes place. But the Raja's tests and trails have just begun - for Durgeshwari has no plans to have him staying at her home for long - and together with DDT, BBC, and Pappu, she plans a vicious and devious plot to ensnare Raja, which will lower his esteem in Rekha's eyes, and then have him thrown out of her house. But Raja, too, has some tricks up his sleeve, making it crystal clear that he is not an easy game - and can wove his own web to ensnare the wily Durgeshwari and her clan
