Story
Jeena Iseeka Naam Hai is a 1982 Indian Bollywood social film released on Jan 01, 1982. The film is directed by P D Shenoy, produced by A A Sirsmith. Shyam works in an office in the city, Bombay, but dreams of becoming a film star and marrying a dream girl. He meets his dream-girl Aruna, at a cinema theatre, only for a brief moment. Then, she disappears, to live in Shyams mind as a dream. . Back in his native village, by an irony of circumstances into which fate is so fond of trapping poor human beings, Shaym is forced inot an unhappy wedlock with a simple, rustic girl for whom he had nothing but dislike from childhood. The marriage remains unconsummative. His dream broken, he returns to the city alone. . In the office to his utter surprise, he finds Aruna as his table-mate. There is his dream girl, at an arms length, but, alas, he could not reach out his arms because of the shameful reality of his marriage. Aruna is a girl full of the joy of life, for whom living and loving is synonymous with `takign. But a singular incidence by which Shyams second dream, that of becoming a film star, gets broken, and by which he discovers Arunas shady past and dubious present and despite he holds her in respect and compassion, makes her learn that there are deeper aspects to loving and living than just the joy of life in `taking. This new dimension of experience wakening up a new dream within her, she confesses her love to Shyam, only to be told by him that he could not return her love, as he was a married man. Suddenly she feels her life thrown into the void of loneliness and worldless anguish. . In this stituation, as a merciless climax of the irony of her Fate, her doctor tells her that the she was suffering from cancer of the liver, whose only cure is painfu death. Scared of death and scared of life, scared of the unbearable reality of loneliness she clings to Shyam out of despair and forces him to spend the night with her, and make love to her, perhaps ot fulfill an impossible dream Awareness of inevitable death however, leads her to a deep concern over the true meaning of life. . Aruna disappears from Shyams life, but appears in the life of his of his wife, Manju. Unknown to Shyam, she meets Manju and gradually trans froms her inot an intelligent, charming, lovable woman with whom Shaym begins to fall in love. Yet their marriage remains uncons- mmative, as the guilty memory of that one night of love with Aruna stands like a wall between Shyam and Mnaju. . Will this wall ever break down and will Shayam and Manju ever physica- lly unite in love. Will they learn, as Aruna has learnt, that the ture meaning of living and loving is not in ignring realtiy and seeking escape in dream, that love is not a noun, but a verb not an empty, romantic concept but self effecting action inspired with compassion.
