Chandrashekhar is from an aristrocratic family, where laughter is considered a sign of belonging to the lower class, and hence it is not encouraged in their family. The only one who dares to laugh is Shekhar's sister Mala. She also dares to love a guy.

Chandrashekhar ( Shamni Kapoor ) and Mala ( Shashikala ) grow up in a high class family under a dominating mother (Lalita Pawar). They have to follow strict rules. Shammi Kapoors best-known film featuring him in his Yahoo persona in songs like Chahe koi mujhe junglee kahe and Ai aai ya suku suku. The rich bachelor Shekhar (S.Kapoor) returns from abroad and refuses to laugh until he meets Kashmiri belle Rajkumari (Banu) who eventually changes his view of the world. The film can be seen as hearlding the colour films that came to be the mainstay of the popular cinema (of Manmohan Desais work) after the 50s Filmistan gere products. Previously, colour had been reserved for big spectacles only. After Junglee, intimate family romances also had to be in colour. The movie is still regarded as a cult item because of Shammi Kapoors youthful and rebellious performance. *.* Shekhar whose only motto in life has been to acquire wealth and more wealth, is a snobbish, prosperous and suessful businessman. The cripsness of the currency notes enhanted him much more than the charm of girls and the Nature. Diversely opposed to his temparament, is his sister Mala, who is seretly in love with Jeewan, a clerk in Shekhars firm, and is married to him. . Both Shekhar and his mother beome aware of Malas secret rendezvous with Jeewan and are opposed to it. In order to make Mala forget Jeewan Shekhar takes her away to Kashmir, where he meets RAAJ KUMARI, the beautiful daughter of a dotor. . While in Kashimr, Mala suddenly realises that she is pregnant. Afraid of initing her brothers wrath, she tries to ommit suicide, but is saved by Raajkumari, who promises to help her. They decide upon a plan to send Shekhar away to Sheesh-Naag, a snow-clad mountain, to failitate delivery of Malas child. The plan is foiled by Shekhars dragging Raajkumari along with him. On thier way to the mountain they are caught in snow-storm. Shekhar is much impressed by the innocence of RAAJKUMARI and is transformed. He is no more the high brow SHEKHAR. . Obsessed by his love for Raajkumari, Shekhar is no more inclined to marry the Princess of Ramgarh, to whom he had been betrothed by his late father. In order to disourage this marriage, he behaves like a during his visit to Ramgarh. But the Raja Saheb, who wanted this math more for his selfish reason of saving himself from his debts, confirms the match. This puts SHEKHAR into delirium. Under dootrs advice, the topic of marriage is shelved for five years. Raja Saheb suspecting a foul play comes down to Bombay with his daughter and discovers the romance between SHEKHAR and RAAJKUMARI. . Seeing his plans foiled, the Raja Saheb resorts to force and a fight between Raja Sahebs son and Shekhar ensues, in whih Shekhar emerges out as triumphant.
