Kankabatir Ghat is a 1955 Indian Bengali drama, family film released on Aug 12, 1955. The film is directed by Chitta Bose.

A tragic story depicting & highlighting the disastrous destiny of the ethnic, eternal indian woman "Kangkabotir ghat" is about the banks of river Ganga in the village of Atashi from where Sati kang kabati, the great wife of Mr. Mukherji (ahindra chaudhury) an artist, committed suicide in an eternal ritual fashion to save her ailing & dying husband. The legend here emphasises that if the wife sacrifices her life in the waters of Ganga, then the husband would revive. After Kangka bati commits suicide, the eccentric Mr. Mukherjee turns mad out of shock & grief & leaves the village with their infant daughter Uma (sandhya rani) who is latter abducted by the shrewd escort Chameli. Uma grous up under Chameli's parentage, under the name of Sheela, while all the years the insane Mukherjee goes searching for Uma, not realizing that his daughter is infront of his very own eyes. Sheela alias Uma fall in love with Pradip (uttam kumar) but abandons ? has when a misunderstanding consciously created by Chameli arises. Later a pregnant Uma leaves Chameli & starts residing separately with Mr. Mukherjee which ? Pradip marries for the second time. His second wife is Mrinaal. Co-incidentally Pradip, Mrinaal & the rest are also from the same village of Atashi & thus respect kangkabati's sacrifice immensly. Pradip & Uma meet after 7 long years through Pradip-Uma's enstranged son. Pradip is shocked to see Uma's poverty & his own son doing hawkery in the lanes of kolkata. After returning to Atashi, he falls severely sick & ultimately marches towards death. Meanwhile in Kolkata, amidst all formails ? the real truth is revealed by Nandua (kamal mitra), an ally of Chameli & Mr. Mukherjee & Uma realizes that they are the father daughter in reality. The father daughter duo gets the news about Pradip's sickness. Uma runs to save the life of her husband who is now somebody else's husband. She meets her rival Mrinaal with almost compassion, keeps her son at her refuge & follows the same path of her mother kangkabati to save the life of her long lost love. In the end Uma commits suicide in the waters of Ganga with a lamp on her head. The frustated father Mukherji wails in vain & the couple - Mrinal (anubha) Pradip unite with Uma's son as their legitimate & only heir. Over all it is a tragedy with a pinch of drama & a message of love & sacrifice.
