Story

Kinare Kinare is a 1963 Indian Bollywood social film released on 1963. The film is directed by Chetan Anand, produced by Nyay Sharma.
Looking back at the years one has left behind is a peculiar moment of mirth and mortification. At times, when reminded of "what dark days seen, what December bareness everywhere", one gets thrills that excel the experience of Perry Mason. Perhaps, it is the feeling the race horse gains after winning the race when it turns round to give a good look t the other horses still trotting lengths behind it. . I ran a race with odds, which chased me with animal ferocity but, thank God, I got even in the end. Though, I have more to forgive than to be forgiven, yet I feel like musing over the pleasant moments in the many years I took in making "KINARE KINARE". . Since, my picture was basically an out door picture, my first problem could be the location. But, my story was born at a river bank nearly forty miles from Bombay so this hurdle never came in my way. My stars could always reach there, in spite of their heavy commitments and strict contracts. . I had enough money, a friend Director and a friendly star team. So, I started a pleasant journey. And, a funny process that it is, a journey is lovable to start with and it generally tends to became hateful and more hateful as one gets deeper into it. . I was sailling smooth and the mirages that generally add pain to the dejection in life were beginning to appear before me. I felt, perhaps I would be the first producer to present an all star cast picture in the shortest possible time. . I used to wonder about Dev Anand who looked more handsome each tomorrow. Meena Kumari and her ocean of emotions would leave me more dazed after each scene she played in my picture. Indeed, she cannot be fathomed. I often could not decide whether Chetan Anand was a better director of an Actor. . But no, "Things are not what they seem", they know the knack of happening in their own way- may be, only to convince us of destiny. . My happily moving train came to a rude stop. Our cameraman, Nafraj, died. The cine industry lost an able technician, the unit and I lost a limb and the picture lost its progress. I wish Nagraj had not to lose his valuable life valuable life to warn me of the pit-falls ahead. I wish I had understood the cruel warning. . What follwed would paint an ugly world. Life would look like a story of villains and vamps. But, this is a story the writer in me will always refuse to write. Because I know there are no villains and vamps the people behave in these ugly manners only when they cannot get their moods, moments and money. . And, thus "KINARE KINARE" left journeying at its former pace. For months together the picture could not be shot. And was delayed by years. I was painted a villain, though undeserving. However, it did hurt me to hear the going on about me. I could not ascribe reasons for the reward generously given to me by my own men. Somewhere, I had a satisfaction that I had done everything in the best interest of the picture-and the caravan went on, of course causing me emotional strains. . But, I discovered that my purse and resources were also strained. This was the darkest hour for me viz-a-viz the picture. I felt I had to gove up the battle as lost. I nearly gave it up as lost and tried to create newer interesta but this was the darkest hour for "KINARE KINARE". . The natural phenomenon followed-it is the darkest night only that gives birth to the moon. There appeared Messrs. Dhun Investors (Private) Ltd., as the lovely crescent and KINARE KINARE could sight a full moon in the nearest future. Ably they mounted my just cause towards the winning post. And, now, firends I yearn to hear your cheers to win the race I started a few years back with odds. . Death might be the penultimate of life?...... But, act we must each tomorrow! And, when life shines at its zenith, the innocent emotions sprout; ambitions make a missionary service; blossoming buds of yearning scent the atmosphere and the shimmering crown of LOVE illuminates the marbles of life. . Thus, LOVE outlives life-outwits death. . Kanwal, a fiery portrait of life and uprightenss, had graduated and was trying to take a short-cut to his beloved mother, staying in a village. He observed a vagabond chasing a young girl to find a short- cut to meet his lust. Kanwal played the saviour. Lust struggled with devilish might but sought its own death by the weapon brandished for cementing the life of the saviour, kanwal had fought for the right and had an eye-witness for his just act. But, life ebbed away from him the moment he found the witness sped away by the terror of the ghastly murder. The only withness evaporated, which Kanwal had never had one good look at. . Murder-Police -Law-Justice-Prison-Hangman crowded Kanwals mind. He wanted to escape all these. Hiding from these phantoms. Kanwal reached a village embracing a river bank. . The village was a poets imagination. The imagination had run tiot in the form of a fair. A traditional fair for promoting only the fair feelings in the townlet. The end of the fair became the beginning of a great love which destingy had preordained in fair Neeloo and Kanwa!. There he was found lying burning in high fever in an unconscious state of mind. . Neeloos father, afterretirement from service, had settled down in the village and was running a small farm and a rice-mill looked after by Pooran-an orphan granted the privileges of a family member by Neeloos father. . May be, truth exists because of the lie?.... In this beautiful village lived an ugly character-Thakur Manohar Singh, another landlord infatuated by the enticing charm of Neeloo. . Two village-idlers - Khabardar and bekhabar found life interesting only if ther was some gossip. The fire of untamed passion consuming Manothar Singh was set ablaze by their gossip. He wanted to end what he thought was an affair between Kanwal and Neeloo. . A hunting expedition expeditin ended in a misfired bullet, skillfully averted by Kanwal. The watch-post occupied by the Kanwal in the farm was set on fire by Manohar Singhs hunchmen. But flames could not entrap fiery Kanwal. . The snares of Manohar Singh scared away the patience of Neeloos father. He wanted to report the matter to the police, in spite of Kanwals dissuasion. POLICE !........Kanwal had to run away once again He left a confessional letter for Neeloo. And, he disappeared. He thought it best to get lost in a crowd. Away came he to Bombay and earned a friend- Mithu. . Pooran had kept the letter form Neeloo. See was bewildered. He wanted to save her from a shock. She was shedding bitter terars. These tears were also glistening in the eyes of Kanwal. . In this dejected moment, Kanwal had to repeat the performance of the in him. A millionaire with his concubine-Usha-were saved from a robbery at the Juhu Beach. Kanwal was rewarded by an appointemnt as the secretary to the millionaire. Unwittingly, Kanwal had robbed Usha of her heart. . Heart-trouble afflicted Neeloo, being troubled unceasingly by a lost heart. Her father was advised to take her to Bombay for treatment. . Usha was trying to flirt with love-she took Kanwal to the spot where she had discovered him. Kanwal was running away from her when he ran into Pooran. He returned his trust-the confession. Kanwal was returned the cherished moments of his life with Neeloo and forgot his hoary past. . They were lost for others since they found each other. The confessional lettr reached embittered Usha who had found Kanwals centre of affection. She delivered it to the law. Passion dragged Manohar Singh to Bombay when he learnt of Neeloos going away to Switzerland for her heart treatment and her impending marriage with Kanwal.
