Story
After her dad passes away, Rajeshwari is left an orphan, dependent on a widow with a mentally challenged son, Ramesh. She believes that her son will recover after Rajeshwari marries him, this drive Rajeshwari to suicide, and this is where she meets Raja Amit Kumar Singh. Both meet, fall in love, and get married. Rajeshwari is then taken to his palace and is simply overawed. It is then she finds out that Amit had been married before to Poonam, who had passed away. She experiences Poonam's presence in the palace, especially in her bedroom, where she finds the rocking chair moves by itself, the bed is warm as though somebody had slept in it, the windows open up on their own, and she hears a voice singing. This begins to tell on her nerves, and the presence of Poonam's maidservant, Dai Maa, does not help. Then their lives are turned upside down when the Police find Poonam skeletal remains in a car at the bottom of a muddied lake, and they arrest Amit for killing her. If found guilty, Amit could face the gallows, and if so, what is to become of Rajeshwari?
The former art director Nag (e.g. for Navaketan films) tells a ghost story about Rajashree (Rehman), a new bride who arrives at an ancestra mansion to find that it is prevaded by the spirit of her husband Amits first wife, Poonam. Known for its classic songs such as Lata Mangeshkars Jhoom jhoom dhalti raat. *.* " I will be the mistress of Mayfair"... so thought Rajashree and this her fondest dream, came true. She arrived at Mayfair, a slightly nervous new bride, to dwell under its vastness with her husband Amit. . yet Poonam, Amits deceased first wife, seemed to be ever present... to be everywhere...in everything. Her very name was pronounced by eveyone with a gay sigh... and even the bitter-sharp tongue of Dai Ma would sound sweet and gentle when she spoke with reverence of Poonam. . Thus did Rajashrees dream become scattered... and faded... her fondest hopes, her most cherished desires torn to pieces with the revalation of the terrible truth.... unbelievable...yet very much true. . " KOHRAA" ( The Mist) tells the story of Rajashree of Mayfair, and of its inhabitants, whether dead or alive, whose lives were shrouded by the errie mist that hung over them.
