Story

Krantikal is a 2005 Indian Bengali drama film released on 2005. The film is directed by Sekhar Das, produced by Shampa Bhattacharya.

Krantikal - the encounter, is the story of a terrorist from the North East who seeks refuge in a palace in Bengal in a deserted area when the police are chasing him during an encounter. Rajeev (Shilajit), the terrorist from the North East, enters the house and comes in contact with Subana (Rupa Ganguly), the daughter- in- law of the house and asks Subana not to reveal his identity to anyone. He promises not to harm anybody if she keeps her word. The household comprises of Subana, her daughter, her father- in -law (Saumitro Chatterjee) her father in law's father (Haradhan Banerjee), a 92 years old man who can barely make sounds which only Subana can understand. Subana rather than Rajeev turns out to be the central character of the film who looks after all the people with equal care and remains a very strong women having gone through all the hardships in life. Her husband had been asked to leave the house by her father- in- law as he was of no use. We also see her being very close to Bimalesh (Arjun Chakraborty), her colleague in college, but circumstances prevent them from taking the relationship any further. The family is an old traditional aristocratic family, but just like other aristocratic families of Bengal, circumstances have forced them to lead a very mediocre life. Rajeev starts staying in the palace pretending to be a relative of Subana. Slowly we see a very humane side of Rajeev, the terrorist, as he is very caring and considerate towards everyone including the mentally impaired women staying in the house. Subana's father-in- law comes to know about Rajeev's real identity (they have a major intellectual discussion at one point of time). The mentally impaired women stay in the house as Subana and her father- in- law offer social support to them. Rajeev gets killed in an encounter with the police, the police having been tipped off by a policewoman (Ruita Datta Chakraborty) who had entered the palace in the guise of a mentally challenged woman.
